Luckily I'm a UConn BBall fan and have experienced plenty of joy in 6 Championships, but said joy is negatively balanced by being a Mets fan too.

ESPN is reporting Mets signed for the subject line contract amount and term:
Sources: Mets land Soto on 15-year, $765M deal

Some quick thoughts:
1. Curious what the 2nd offer was? and from who....Yankees?
2. Do the Mets stop here? They need pitching and 1st base is still open with Alonso also a free agent.
3. The amount of money is ludicrous now!!!

Thoughts???

1. Yankees offered 16 for $760M
2. I bet the Mets still add 2 SPs and bring back Alonso next

I always thought this was a possibility. My real thoughts... he gets mentioned like a god every eligible trade year, always gets crazy contracts yet hasn't been a real catalyst on any team since Washington.
He was great there because he seemed to care way more and was young and hungry. This is one guy who really only cares about money. And everyone knows this, which baffles me even more. I know what his numbers are but this a different guy than the phenom we saw in d.c.
he cared there and won them a ring.

If I had Effyou money, this is exactly how I would use it. Long way from the Wilpons.

Taking it you didn’t watch any baseball this season

Now Hal has to step up and use some of the $760million offered Soto and get a LF, 3B, CF, 1B. at least 2 SP, at least 2 relievers, and possibly a C!
We'll see if he is serious about making the NYY a WS Champion!

Good for the Mets and Hal choked he can't close deals like the Boss could. There has to be more to the story of why Soto chose the Mets over the Yankees. The Yankees no longer have a culture. Hal is in the wrong business it's time for him to sell the team.

He's not, now here comes the we tried narrative, Michael Kay will be kissing Hal's ass on Monday.

This may come across as harsh, and I generally like your posts, but this is one of the dumbest things I've ever read. You think he didn't try last season and only cared about money? Because he hit .288 with 41 HRs and 109 RBIs. That's a .989 OPS / 178 OPS+, which are elite numbers

He was the last guy to sit in the Yankee dugout, watching the Dodgers celebration. Of course money is always a factor, but there seems to be more of the story why he chose the Mets over the Yankees.

He will linger in Mets history. Never get to another World Series and even with this the Yankees still own NewYork. The only place NewYork will feel like home is in Citi Field. He will be heckled and hated by the majority of NewYorkers. Go out to dinner and hear how much he is hated.

He made a huge mistake for his legacy. The Mets I mean it’s the Mets. I truly hope NewYorkers make him feel as unwelcome as possible. Just walk around Manhattan 15 Yankee hats to 1 Mets hat. That is the public sentiment he will get and we will be loud every where he goes.

Our job is to make him hear this every where he goes in New York.

First time in a while the Mets signed an elite talent in their prime. Needed to overpay, tells other FAs they're serious. LGM

Lmao this is the king of sour grapes posts…..making up fake stats doesn’t make your point look any better

Now the Yankees need to sign Burnes, Christian Walker, Profar and then sign a reliever or two.

Won't make up but another arm, Walker and Profar are both good players.

I don't know. $1.25 million per homer and 2 RBI every three games doesn't seem close to an honest return on $51 million per year.

.-.
Yankees now need to just go all in on starting pitching. Get Burnes AND Fried. Trade for Bellinger and then sign some budget bats. A rotation of Cole, Burnes, Fried, Rodon, and Gil would rival the Dodgers as the best in baseball and be good enough to carry a somewhat underwhelming offense.

My man! True. I was way too harsh on a guy I actually like. He's a hall of famer. His numbers are great and I went Ham as a bitter rays fan who is never in this scenario. I deserved to be called out. I should've stuck to this:

Ive heard a few times that he is shrewd and wants be the highest paid player ever. that he doesn't care about history or culture, and that, although yankees fans want to think that since its the mighty yanks, and they were just world series contenders, he'd stay.

But, some baseball heads kept saying Soto ultimately will go for the biggest deal regardless. He would drop the yanks in a heartbeat for even 5 mill more.
Then I listen to Brandon and Sal that whole week in June when it came to light that uncle Stevie would target soto. scared yankees fans were calling saying "no way he'd leave the best record in the AL, world series favorites for the Mets! We're the yanks"
And Sal kept saying "well, then guys you don't know juan soto"
it seems he was right, at least about the outcome. But I've heard this about Soto every where he went. I mean, He HAS moved around a lot for a young dude.
But, I'm sure he also wants to win. This argument would've held more weight if the Mets remained the Mets of May. We will see

So it may be fake stat but how off is it. The Yankee cap outsells all others by a considerable margin world wide. And if you think there are more Mets fans in New York than Yankee fans then you would be wrong.

Are there more Islander fans than Rangers fans.

And what happened when the Nets tried to be New York’s favorite basketball team. Durant, Harden and Irving. How did that work out.

New York has a way to make the greatest a bit smaller if they stumble, re: Aaron Rodgers.

You can post when you win number three. You want to see what this does. Look at the Lions and Rams. The Rams made the Lions the freaking Lions by selling out to get Stafford. Yeah they won one Super Bowl. Is it worth it if you win number four. And by the way look who will be hitting in front of Soto. This was not about ego it was about a player with o character wanting to be the man. It’s funny because you can troll all you want and that’s cool. But remember revenge is a dish best served cold. You think this is great for the Mets……..you have a felon for an owner and a classless star. Him and Lindor deserve each other. C

I love Soto, but I have no problem with the Yankees walking away from that deal.
Yanks offered 47.5 million a year, Mets 51.

3.5 million a year was a deal breaker. Gotta have money for cleats too.

The worst thing that has happened to the NYY recently is GEORGE passed away!
I've said it here before and I'll say it again if George was still alive the Yankees would have won at least 4 WS, since 2009, signed Bryce Harper & and T.J. Reamuto 5 years ago.
If NY can't have Soto, Hal has to spend $600 million/or trade on Christian Walker, Cody Bellinger, Anthony Santander, Alex Bregman, Corbin Burnes, Max Fried, Walker Buehler, Tanner Scott and Jeff Hoffman!
Without those players above we won't even make the Playoffs next season let alone the WS!

So what you’re saying is Juan Soto should have chosen the Yankees because they have more fans? What a lame source of reasoning you seem to be going down….just admit you have sour grapes and be done with it
