OT...Sorry Amazon Fire Stick

YouTubeTV covers all those. Every last one.

Seems to be what people have been saying when I ask. Any experience with Hulu +TV? I believe they have all the stations I'll need as well and it's a little cheaper.

Hulu TV (which I maybe switching to) is a bit shady In their pricing in my opinion. You have to pay up to be able to skip commercials on their DVR, increase storage on the DVR, and be able to use it on mobile devices. It’s like $1 less than YouTube TV. But they have YES channel As well as the Fox Sports channels.

We have one series 8 downstairs in the cave, and 6's everywhere else.

The 8 is the sharpest television I've ever owned, colors pop, it's remarkable. Watching sports on the 8 is a great experience, no blurriness at all.

@Dove , if you don't know your mail-person well........you're about to.

You don't have to pay extra to watch on your phone.

Or you can jailbreak the fire stick and get everything everywhere for free.

So the 8 is worth the extra $1200? I have be able to dazzle my wife with logic.

We got the 8 on a ridiculous deal @ Best Buy for $1200 alone! I haven't seen it anywhere close to that since, I still don't know how that was even possible...

Something else to consider when getting internet... Get your own modem and router. These would be one time costs as opposed to renting the modem/router combo from Comcast. Just make sure you get a router and modem that can provide the speed you'll need. Amazon will say if the modem is Comcast compatible and you'll need to call Comcast to give them the serial # so they can verify if the signal is going there. As far as router goes, I recommend the Netgear NightHawk. Signal is good and the speed is good. Love the dual bands.

What app are you using on your broken stick? I had TeaTV and Terrarium and both are dead for me.

Fire Stick is too slow and clunky IMO, I'm a Roku honk for life.

We have 4 TCL Roku TVs in the house, can't imagine doing it another way.

I have a TCL Roku TV. It isn't any faster than my newer FireStick. The recent 4K FireStick works great.

Okay, so she'll still need Comcast for the internet. At least we can ditch the excessive cable cost and the box.
When you sign up for Internet only ask for Flex, it's included for free. You will get a small free box with lots of free streaming from Peacock TV (NBC) and Pluto TV.

I didn't even ask, they just sent it with the tech when he came to install the internet.

I 0% believe that. No offense, but the interface moves like molasses.

I routinely use roku on one tv and fire stick on another. Both are fine. I really don’t have a preference.

Which one do you use to transact business, add/drop apps etc? Roku is superior for me on that front.

It may be. I don’t really transact business on either. Just select from prime, netflix, etc then stream programming. I still have cable, so just select input to go back and forth. For “mom” I’m not sure one would be better than the other in my experience.

That said, my wife prefers roku, so that is in the LR and the fire is in the man cave.

Depending on how much programming your mom needs you might be better off getting a quality HD antenna.
I got one for my 80 yr old mom who only watches local news and some basic programming. She receives over 40 channels with all locals and many cable networks on the secondary signals with better picture than any other form of broadcast. You would be very surprised at what stations are available with only the initial cost of the antenna.

Get a good one if you go antenna. My "50 mile" antenna can't get the New Haven channels from S. Windsor.

It's all topography. Look up your address on RabbitEars.Info and see what's available. I get NYC channels from Monroe, but that's mostly because i 1) live at elevation and 2) have clear line of sight to the ESB/WTC.

Oh, and the "New Haven channels," assuming you mean WTNH / WCTX, are on VHF, while most current antennas focus on UHF

Have to lucky enough to live in the flatlands or on top of the biggest hills. I would get zero channels. At our first place (about 3 miles away), I got everything from NY to Boston to Albany to Providence. With rabbit ears.

WCTX isn't VHF, it's UHF. I get the Springfield channels fine.

WCTX is on VHF since the repack. They channel share with WTNH on physical channel 10 now.

Roku stick for $50 one time charge if your TV isn't compatible. Then $50/mo for Hulu Live TV and get all the live cable channels you used to get plus a few more.

This is the way. (We added Disney+)

You may get a broken device and have difficulty connecting the first time, just return it for a new one. For that reason, but one in person instead of online.

You also get plenty of free Roku streaming channels if yoi don't really care about live TV.

Heres the problem.

when you try cord cutting with senior citizens where they have to jump through hoops and streaming platforms and inputs to watch what they want to watch instead picking up a cable remote theyve been used to for 40 years, it rarely turns out pretty.

Even though Im sure Doves mom is much smarter than Dove, it still is fraught with problems.

thinking of switching from comcast to youtube tv. I know they have most of the channels UConn will be on(CBS Sports, FS1) but do they have FS2? Do you have an option to add it? Is Apple TV comparable?
