OT: Songs that make you think

Lucinda Williams, “Pineola.”

When Daddy told me what happened
I couldn't believe what he just said
Sonny shot himself with a 44
And they found him lyin' on his bed…

Richard & Linda Thompson, “Down Where the Drunkards Roll.”

See the boys out walking
The boys, they look so fine
Dressed up in green velvet
Their silver buckles shine
Soon they'll be bleary eyed
Under a keg of wine
Down where the drunkards roll
Down where the drunkards roll…

I found this song a number of years ago and I still can't stop thinking about it from time to time. It's beautiful, sad, and certainly worthy of thought. English translation included, and true story follows.

Great choice! I was debating between posting this and posting Turn Turn Turn.

(Fun fact: Barry McGuire wanted to record California Dreaming and use the Mamas and the Papas as his back up group. The music producer said bring them in and let me listen to them, and then decided to use them without Barry Maguire.)
But they did him a solid in "Crique Alley". McGuin and McGuire , just a gettin' higher in L.A., you know where that's at.

Fleetwood Mac- "Hypnotized":

They say there's a place down in Mexico
Where a man can fly over mountains and hills
And he don't need an airplane or some kind of engine
And he never will......
