Obviously Tahoe. But I'm a little biased.

Never skied out west. How much different is the experience besides longer runs?

Ski ...sugerloaf or jpeak
Never been skiing in Maine or northern VT. Usually go to Killington; 3 hour drive and some decent skiing.

Generally........longer runs, more skiable acres, more vertical, more snow, warmer temps, better amenities.

I snowboard mostly west coast now that I'm down south. I typically go to Park City, UT, which is one of the most enjoyable places to ride, in my opinion. My favorite mountain there is Canyons, but Park city and Brighton are great all around mountains, and Snowbird has some of the best bowls around

I'm actually flying out to Tahoe next weekend to ride Squaw and Alpine Meadows, unfortunately they have no snow...

growing up in CT I loved day trips to mount snow and okemo, but Stowe is hands down the best new england resort in my opinion

The amenity thing is really getting to be a non issue. Places in Vermont (Stowe, Jay, Stratton etc) , and Loon in NH among others, are really bringing it. I like the weather out west a lot better though. Northern New England is so freakin cold comparatively.

Less ice, snow is powdery. Actually you have fresh powder almost every morning. It's heaven.

I like Stowe in Vermont. I grew up skiing Mohawk Mountain and Butternut locally. Never bothered with Sundown.

We got a foot on Friday a dusting today and the forecast is calling for a couple of inches Thursday and Friday. I think you will be surprised by how good the conditions are. They have been making a ton of snow and this recent storm allowed them to open the upper mountain at squaw. Siberia and Shirley are open and ready for you. Let me know If you have any questions about the area.

We had 12 Friday. 95% of skiers wouldn't know what to do with 30' and would spend the day skiing groomers

That's great news! I heard the storm was coming through Thursday night, and had heard up to 2 feet high up in the mountains. Was really nervous that the upper part of squaw was still closed, but I booked the trip back in late November so not really anything I could do at this point.

East - icier, more variable conditions, edge to edge skiing
West - bigger vert, more powder, more varied terrain. Need to adjust your style a bit.
Europe, more wide open, bigger vert than US, not as much altitude, similar to the west but far less snowmaking, generally warmer. More likely to find unique terrain at your run of the mill slopes.

My preferred slopes:

East: Sugarloaf, Sunday River, Cannon (only if there is a lot of snow), Loon, Magic (when it was cheap and open) and Okemo (because it's close)

West: A-basin, Vail (for the bowls), Beaver Creek before it was crowded, Jackson Hole.

Europe: Chamonix (Gran Montet, Brevant), St. Moritz, Livingno (if you like Apres), and Bormio.

Tahoe and Whistler are on my west coast wish list.

Damn I'm missing out by only skiing the east. Have you ever skied Sugarloaf in March?

Ha, not even sure my 117mm under foot rockered skis were enough. Steep runs were great though.

I live in Vermont. I ski Mad River Glen. But have skied all over. My daughter goes to school in Salt Lake now. Little cottonwood Canyon has the best snow you will ever ski. Skied snowbird maybe 15 days, 12 of them I would call powder days. Just picked up a new pair of surface one life skis for my bday, 112 underfoot with full rocker....
