I brought this one out to celebrate. It’s amazing just like yesterday was.

I bet this is amazing. I am not a peat guy but I would be willing to give this one a go. I have always heard that the peat starts to fade a bit on these older ones. Is it still a bottle of hospital or is it toned down?

The peat has definitely faded with age and this doesn’t have the iodine-medicinal punch that the younger versions have. It really is beautiful.

For the record this bottle is not a recent bottling. I received it as a gift in 2009. That bottle cost my in-laws $199. Current pricing on the 30 is $700 or more which is insane to think.

What's a bottle of hospital? Have you been drinking rubbing alcohol?

Laphroaig has a note that is often refered to as " hospital " or " bandaid ". Its hard to describe beyond that. Peat can do some odd things to barley. Some peat is like a twiggy sort of chimney smoke flavor, some is a bit meaty or bbq meat type of notes. Its pretty wild what the Scots can do with 1 cereal grain, a still and a fair amount of time in a cask.

Prices are wild man. I used to be able to get a bottle of Tomatin 18 here in NC, for $100! Its close to two now just 3 years later.

LMAO! I knew exactly what @Deepelm was asking. The flavor in Laphroaig I would attribute to "hospital" is iodine. That flavor comes from the seaweed that makes up the peat they use.

I recently stumbled on this one and really liked it.

That's a steal.
I saw the price at $64.99 but the store makes frequent mistakes, so I took it up for a price check. It wasn't in the system at all, so she typed in Bunnahabhain 12, which was in the system. Other employee confirmed the shelf label too.

If I could get my local ABC to do that with the Black Arts 11 that have that would be great.

Same store had a Bardstown store pick cherry wood finished rye mixed in with regular Bardstown rye, and charged the same price for it. It wasn't even their store pick, there is so much shady and illegal inventory swapping in Massachusetts. It's rampant amoung all these Indian families that own half the stores.
