Im a little surprised, I thought the cowboys defense was good. I know what everyone is going to say, so I will say it although its a pipe dream. Even though the guy is it would be awesome to have him as our DC. I think he ends up going to the Jets though.

From what NFL types on twitter have said, there is no chance he goes to the Jets as the NYJ have already promoted from within.

yeah, that would be a PR nightmare. I would take him as our D coordinator. Did you see his comments thats he just made.

I saw him say something to the effect of "I'll be out of work for like 5 minutes"

"I inherited a team that was 31st in the league in defense and made them better," Ryan told ESPNDallas.com's Tim MacMahon. "I (expletive) made them a hell of a lot better. I'll be out of work for like five minutes."

The Cowboys defense finished 19th overall, 17th against the run and 21st against the pass.

Never had a def in the top 10 according to Schine & Gannon on Sirius

Sounds like he's got the Ryan mouth and attitude another assh@le that should of been canned years ago.

All the Ryans are big hat, no cattle.

Ryan was hardly the biggest problem they have - the defense had some significant injuries and wasn't all that bad in spite of it. But since the Cowboys can't fire the GM and they can't fire the quarterback, Jones has to pretend to do something.

could come down and coach the defense, but as long as Jerry Jones is picking players like a drunk at a fantasy draft and Romo is swallowing his nuts at the first sign of pressure, it won't matter.

Happily.

Good God, we are not in enough of a soap opera? A Ryan is the last thing UConn needs on any level.......

Rob Ryan was a little off on his facts. Cowboys were 23rd in defense in 2010, when PP was the Dallas DC for the last half of the season. To be fair to PP Dallas D did improve after Wade Phillips was canned. Maybe Jerry wants P back???

DeMarcus Ware would vouch for PP.

Ryan will be coaching in the NFL next year period. He won't be coaching UConn or any other college.

I personally think Rex and Rob are huge douches and I hate the Jets and Cowboys because of this.

However, UConn shouldn't be so god damn conservative in the next hire. Would it really kill the program to hire a guy who's going to come in and say he wants to win conference titles, that UConn is a great university and it is a great place to play.

I mean, christ look at Rex Ryan. Two wild cards and two AFC confs runner ups and he had Jet fans thinking he was the modern incarnation of Vince Lombardi. They were covered by ESPN, SNY and NY Media non-stop because of that. Now they are losing at it's gone downhill, but when you talk that much you're bound to at least be in the conversation and that's what UConn needs.

Drastic times call for drastic measures. After this season and P's firing, another re-tread conservative hire won't cut it.

Now, let me go take a shower as I feel dirty for even mentioning Rex Ryan and using him as an example of something UConn should do.

That would be quite a scene if Rob Ryan were our D coordinator but it would be worth it. Imagine an in game exchange between him and GDL or PP lol. What kid wouldn't wanna play defense for some one that lets their hair down and puts confidence in his kids. Ill take an coach who is energetic and successful over old, boring and unsuccessful like PP and GDL.

I don't want him here - he looks too much like the Big Lebowski and I would be forced to murder Joe D after his third 'the dude abides' quip.

I say we go straight to the top and hire Buddy Ryan.

I'm pretty sure he's still alive and if he isn't, he's still probably still more effective than P and GDL.

Just think of how hard it is to game plan against a team so crazy that their defensive coordinator isn't even alive - that might be the edge we're looking for.

"You don't want to play at UConn....they got duck*ing Buddy Ryan stuffed and mounted on the sidelines. I hear they have Vince Lombardi on dry ice somewhere."

Just add a crazy psychic, to communicate with those coaches beyond the grave and relay the plays.

The guy is a slovenly psychotic pig. Can't stand either Ryan blowhards... Just like their old man.

I normally would prefer a guy that's done very well as HC of a 1AA program that's from the area so he might stay around for a while, that will build the program long term, but right now I agree with you we need a splashy hire. In our situation we find ourselves in we need a hire that says we're serious about competing right away. I don't care much for Tuberville, but at least Cinci went out and went head to head with a "top 5" conference team and bought out their coach. It shows they intend to compete at that level regardless of conference, and that's what we need with our next hire. In the next 3-4 years, on the field success will take a back seat in importance to perception and politics if we want to get out of the NNBE. I don't think Rob Ryan is the answer, but whoever the answer is it'll probably be different from what we were looking for with our last hire.

Another bubble burst :(

Per @Edwerderespn, Cowboys have focused their search for a defensive coordinator on longtime NFL assistant Monte Kiffin.

I like Kiffin for my Cowboys but I'm concerned about how are transition to the Tampa 2 4-3 Defense will be after playing in the 3-4 for the past 7 years ( or more I think )....

Rob Ryan? He has had an exciting style of defense wherever he's coached in college(Western Kentucky, Oklahoma St and a couple small colleges) but could he land 4 stars on the recruiting trail? That's the next hurdle. I could hold my nose if our defense with him improved and we saw a higher caliber player choosing UConn. It would get people talking about the Huskies and that can only be a good thing. I don't think the school could pay him the money he would demand. Too bad. Sure would be interesting.

players do like playing for him, he was also a linebackers coach for the Pats Super Bowl time. He might be an but he can coach a defense, I couldnt see him coaching in college though. I wonder if he ran his mouth off to Jerry Jones (who is the biggest problem on the Cowboys).

Is Ryan such a good coach that it mitigates his "hey look-at-me" act?

With as stagnant a situation that UConn finds itself in maybe a "hey look-at-me .......take an up and coming football program's defense and make it the best in the land" kind of juice is just what the doctor ordered. It won't happen of course but is a pleasant day dream.
