OT RIP Rob Reiner

This is incredibly sad and shocking. It's barely making cable news yet because of all the other horrific stuff that's happened in the past 24 hours.

He made some legendary movies. Stand by Me is one of the best movies ever made, IMO. Spinal Tap, Misery, A Few Good Men...

It's going to be someone close to him which makes it even sadder.

Apparently his son Nick Reports say he has had addictiin and homelessness issues. We know little about celebs lives when the photographers aren’t around

It sounds like their daughter who lives across the street discovered their bodies and called the police. First night of Hanukkah, she was probably planning on spending the evening with them. This is so horrible.

Yep.

I literally learned of this news taking a break from watching Spinal Tap II ... which only began streaming on HBO Max on Friday ...

... I won’t be able to watch the end ... about 24 minutes left ... maybe ever

I am a major fan of his entire body of work.

Terrible news. I first saw Rob on “All In The Family” so many years ago. He grew into a great director. A movie that wasn’t mentioned yet was “When Harry Met Sally”. I read that he changed the ending of that movie when he met his wife Michelle who also was killed. RIP.

In this case, Nick Reiner's struggles were actually quite public. His father wrote and directed the 2015 film Being Charlie, which was based on his son’s personal experiences, including his time in rehab and living on the streets. They made movie not for commercial success, but to raise awareness.

I don't get why every media outlet is profiling his best movies and I haven't seen one that mentions Princess Bride.
I've seen it mentioned, but I agree that is a classic. Whomever the screenwriter is, it is a brilliant adaption from the William Goldman book. Reiner casting Billy Crystal and then giving him carte blanche to just ad lib resulted in some of the funniest scenes in that movie.

So shocking and heartbreaking. He was a great foil for Carroll O'Connor on All in the Family, and shifted to being a great director. The movies he directed ran the gamut from rom-coms to dramas to fantasy.

I've seen a bunch of people mention it, usually in talking about what a run he had in the 80s/90s (and how diverse the movies were). E.g.,

That is a wide range of movies, from kids movie to prestige Oscar contender with Romcom, horror, and fantasy/comedy in between. Impressive.

The apple did not fall far from the Carl Reiner tree with Rob. Just an incredibly talented family. Rob mentioned over the years that his 10-year marriage to Penny Marshall benefited him creatively as well. As a kid, I loved his Meathead character, but his writing/directing/producing talents really set him apart. It’s been a rough start to the week news-wise.
