While we wait for the boys to be back in action on NYE, figured this would be fun. Something I often wonder is what other teams (collegiate or professional) UConn fans most often root for. I imagine I'm fairly standard, but would be cool to see if other trends emerge.

Being firmly from the New England part of Connecticut I root for the:

Boston Red Sox (My other first love along with the UConn men)
New England Patriots
Boston Celtics

I imagine we'll be pretty split between the New England and New York teams and this will remain incredibly civil ;)

I don’t really follow anything other than UConn bball, but a lifelong friend of mine loves UNC bball like I love UConn, so I route for their success for his sake (doubles as implicitly routing against Duke, too).

Edit: root* not route in this context? I’m not sure I’ve ever written that before, but it looks wrong the way I put it.

in order of intensity after UConn basketball:
Chase Elliott NASCAR (then any Hendrick teammates)
Arizona Cardinals Football
St Louis Cardinals Baseball
UConn Women's hoops
L.A. Kings Hockey
When I was a kid, I was a big 76ers fan for basketball but don't follow the NBA at all anymore.

The Yankees are the only other team I follow with any real purpose, although I've grown to find them fairly painful as well.

I like football and enjoy playing fantasy, but I don't really (and never have had) a team. I liked the Cowboys for a bit because of my brother, but was totally a bandwagon fan during the Jimmy Johnson days. I liked the Raiders as well for a bit because of rap music and reading Jack Tatum's book, but that faded post-Gruden.

I despise the Pats - my first football memory is being told the "local" team was in the Super Bowl, and I should watch. Proceeded to watch the '85 Bears absolutely decimate them, and the Pats were forever put into the loser category for me.

I loved Dominique Wilkins, so I was a Hawks fan for a bit, but never really adopted an NBA team either. Liked Jordan, so I guess I liked the Bulls as well, and thought Shawn Kemp was fun to watch, so I dug the Sonics, but all of my NBA fandom was player-centric.

I liked the Whalers and was really into the Red Wings as a kid because I thought the name Yzerman was super cool, and Bob Probert was fun to watch. But I lost my hockey vibe over time.

Cleveland Brown. Season ticket holder since 1999. Drive up from Cincinnati to home games. It has been rough.
Mexican national team fútbol
St. Louis cardinal baseball
The Knicks
Oklahoma Sooners football.

Live 3 miles from Xavier’s campus so hopefully will be celebrating new years!

UConn men's basketball
Juventus (Italian soccer team)
UConn football
Jets
US Men's national soccer team

As a child I also rooted for:
LA Lakers
SF Giants

It’s really only UConn men’s basketball and the Yankees now. Kind of a lapsed Knicks fan but occasionally check in on them. I’ve decided to not have an NFL team anymore. The Jets have taken my heart and soul and stomped on them, seemingly every Sunday since the Wesley Walker/Johnny “Lam” Jones days. Was a rabid NHL fan as a kid in the ‘70s and ‘80s, but don’t watch as much as I used to.

Besides UConn, Pirates are pretty much it.

Haven't had a ABA/NBA team since the Nets were forced to give up Dr. J.

Haven't had an NFL team since Doug Brien missed two FGs.

Haven't really followed an NHL team since the Islanders dynasty.

Islanders
Knicks

I was a Cowboys fan growing up. Now I recognize it’s weird for a guy that lived in NY in elementary school and PA for the rest of K-12 to be a Cowboys fan. I can’t bring myself to root for any other NFL team though, so I just follow the NFL generally. Makes it less fun without a real team to follow. I also live in the Philly burbs (Delco) and I think if I told anyone here I was a Cowboys fan my house would be set on fire.

.-.
My teams:
Mets
Devils
NFL - I just can't buy into any team, no matter how hard i try. But, I watch all football

Associations - will root when it makes sense
Virginia Tech (my kid is there)
Clemson (many friends went there)

This thread pops up every year or so and I always love both giving my answer and seeing what other people say.

UConn is perhaps my biggest emotional investment, where I’ll plan my entire days around their games and their losses will legitimately affect my mood. This primarily goes for men’s hoops and baseball, but I often say if UConn had an NCAA chess team, it’d be appointment viewing for me.

My fandom tends to be tied to how much the team/sport is part of my own identity. If I have a more intense personal connection, the fandom had a greater emotional influence on me. Based off that, a listing of my rooting interests by intensity looks like this:

UConn men’s hoops (from CT, went to UConn)
Ukraine national soccer team (Ukie-American, I would literally give anything for them to qualify for the World Cup)
UConn baseball (played baseball growing up)
Yankees (ditto to a slightly lesser degree)
USMNT (again, I’m American myself)
UConn football

After that, I’m probably no more than a casual Giants/Knicks/Rangers fan these days. If it wasn’t for fantasy, I’d probably not watch the NFL at all. And I’ve always vastly preferred the the college game to the NBA. As for hockey, I’ll tune in with some intensity if the Rangers are in the playoffs but I’ve never really had a day-to-day interest.

Nothing. UConn men's basketball is the only team I follow in any sport.

I don't have the time or patience for anything else.

I always like reading the responses to questions like this and seeing how fandom develops. Pretty standard Phillies, Sixers, Eagles, Flyers for the pro teams for me. ASU basketball, although it would be pretty cool if they were better than they are. Seton Hall basketball, too.

I still think there are few combinations as weird as Knicks, Bengals, Royals.
