OT: Ohh NOOO, not another music thread (Holiday)

That being said, my favorites are:

"Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home)" either the original by Darlene Love or on the first A Very Special Christmas by U2.

"Oh Holy Night"

"When the River meets the Sea" - either John Denver and Robin or Emmitt Otter & Momma Otter

"Keep Christmas with You" - Bob and Linda from Sesame Street (Mostly because my brother, sister, and I get to tease my mother about it. On the other hand, the message is nice for the season).

Least favorites:
"(Feed the World) Do they know it's Christmas Time" - Way over played and the lyrics are not only misleading, they are depressing ("Well, tonight thank god it's them instead of you." and There won't be snow in Africa this Christmas time." Of course not. Africa is in the Southern Hemisphere. Its summer).

"All I want for Christmas is You" - More over played than Feed the World.
But "All I Want For Christmas" is such a sweet, innocent song. I can't help but love it. But frankly only Mariah's version and no other.

My favorite modern version.

Hard to find a real sweet and innocent version of this, so I'll just settle on this one.

"Once you pass its boarders you can ne'er return again".

What do the following Christmas songs have in common?

“White Christmas”

“Happy Holiday”

“Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”

“Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree”

“A Holly Jolly Christmas”

“Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!”

“Winter Wonderland”

“The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)”

“Sleigh Ride”

“It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”

“Silver Bells”

“I’ll Be Home for Christmas”

“(There’s No Place Like) Home for the Holidays”

“Baby, It’s Cold Outside”

I liked it in 1996, and I still like it, but I've heard it roughly 351 times on the way home from Thanksgiving, let alone in the two weeks since. There are other songs.

BTW two songs that are great that I don't hear enough of are Straight No Chaser's version of "The 12 Days Of Christmas" and "The Christmas Can-Can."

Well, no offense, but I'd rather hear Monk with Charlie Rouse do "Straight No Chaser". Although recently I saw Joey Alexander (who is ripe at 14 years old now) with Ulysses Owens jr kill it at The Jazz Standard.

Always my most favorite since I was a kid, brings tears to my eyes every year:

Is "Straight no Chaser" a song? I was referring to the a Capella group out of Indiana.

One of my favorite versions.

O Holy Night (Cantique de Noel) - Pavarotti

Saw them live a few years ago. Very good show.

Christmas Eve in Sarajevo - TSO

Baby It’s Cold Outside-Dean Martin
Little Drummer Boy-Bing & Bowie
Christmas Wrapping- The Waitresses

Here you go. When I posted "Let it snow..." that one was tickling in the back of my memory. Thanks for the reminder.

Yeah, written by Monk in his typical angular, rhythmic, contrapuntal, yet melodic style. Give it a listen. Even jazz guys today still find his stuff hard to play.

The best version of "Let It Snow" was sung by roughly 68,000 people at Gillette Stadium in the 2003 AFC Championship game (aka Bill Polian rule change game).

My first reaction is that they're all copyrighted, but I thought that was too easy/broad. Based on your followup, it might be what you were looking for, though. Most Holiday songs are in the public domain.

When I read the list it was easy - Der Bingle!

Not a one written by gentiles. And here I thought the Dreidel Song was the best for song Hanukkah. Yeah, I live in NYC. I've sung them all man during Hanukkah, Midnight Mass, Pentecostal Christmas', Jehovah Witness Christmas' (no such thing), Southern Baptist Christmas. You name it.
