I say this every year for the past decade or so. Why hasn't the MVP award been renamed the QB award? Myles Garrett is going to break the all-time single season sack record and he isn't even top 7 in odds to get MVP. This will be the 13th straight year they give the award to a QB while pass rushers, running backs, and receivers have been putting up historic seasons and they don't even sniff the award.

What would the Browns’ record be without Garrett? What would the Patriots’ record be without Drake Maye? What would the Rams’ record be without Matthew Stafford?

I agree with your general point that it shouldn’t be a QB award, but Myles can’t win it on a 3-12 team.

It should be Maye this year, unlike Stafford he doesn’t have a great supporting cost at all yet will still lead the Pats to a 1 to 2 seed

I don't really see an argument for Maye. He has one more win than Stafford but the Patriots have one of the easiest schedules ever and Stafford has 40 passing TD's and 5 interceptions to Maye's 25 passing TD's and 8 interceptions +4 rushing TD's.

It’s close to me. But Stafford has two awesome WRs, one who might be the best in the NFL, as well as elite offensive coach. That’s going to lead to better passing counting statistics. Their advanced metrics are very close, I think Maye is higher in EPA

The Browns have given up the 20th most points per game and are 3-12. It doesn't seem like getting a lot of sacks is all that important. It would be like if we gave the basketball MVP to the guy with the most steals in the league.

Quarterback is by far and away the most important position in any team sport. It’s not even close. No single player has as much of an impact on EVERY game as the quarterback. Especially in the modern game. You may not like that, but it’s a fact. So to me it makes perfect sense why the MVP is almost exclusively a QB now.

Myles Garrett being the most valuable player while being on a perennial bottom 4 team certainly is an argument.

So why not rename it the QB award now since they are the only players who can win it now? The quarterback was always considered the most important position but the NFL used to give the award to other position players and no longer does.

Not as much control but a hot goalie can take over a series run and propel a team to Lord Stanley’s Cup

It’a Stafford or Allen. Allen is clearly the better player and likely more valuable, Stafford simply has insane stats.

Allen got the MVP over Lamar last year when Lamar had literal All-Time stats. Stafford should get it this year.

I'm going to guess because players who were not QBs have won the award in the past so they think it will happen again.

And he therefore could be the MVP for a series. Just like a pitcher could for a World Series. It not an entire season.

People who recommend Drake Maye don’t know what the hell they’re talking about.

It’s still the MVP award. You’re just being obstinate.

Vegas has him at #2 odds. They usually know what they are doing. Guessing you are just a Patriots hater. And no, I don’t think he should get it, but he sure does deserve top 2 or 3.
