Today, Wesleyan plays for the Division III National Championship. Tomorrow, Yale plays Duke for the Division I title. Two schools from the State representing. Connecticut is a lax hotbed at the youth & high school levels. Nice to see a local flavor at the college championship level.

From another forum/discussion yesterday:
Jeff Jacobs: Lacrosse at UConn makes sense, but don’t hold your breath

>>“It’s not a priority at this time from the standpoint that we’ve got a lot other things we’re dealing with,” UConn athletic director David Benedict said. “Obviously, whether it’s sports sponsorship or budget, we’ve got to get our situation in order before we start thinking about adding sports.

“I do think if you were ever going to consider adding a sport at UConn, that one is at the top of the list.”<<

>>“Listen, we can’t go back and play revisionist history here,” said Benedict, hired in 2016. “But why that sport wasn’t on the list and isn’t already sponsored at our place, I can’t tell you. This isn’t just something that’s becoming relevant right now. This is a sport we could have been dominating the last decade.”<<

>>“If someone came forward who wanted to support lacrosse financially, it certainly would increase the likelihood of it happening,” Benedict said. “That hasn’t happened. We really haven’t gone out and solicited people for it. It is something we’ll have on the list, but there are more pressing things we’ve got to address first.”>>

>>“It comes down to this,” Brameier said, “money and managing Title IX numbers.”

Truth. That’s why lacrosse is a club sport for men at UConn and the women are Division I.

“If you add a men’s sport, you have to have something to offset that,” Benedict said. “A lot of these men’s lacrosse teams have 40 athletes (average D-I roster: 44). That’s a big number. What would be the complementary sport to add for women? Or do you reduce a men’s sport? You’re not canceling soccer or baseball at our place.”<<

>>Few things would win over Fairfield County better than adding lacrosse. Evidently it will take some gold from the Gold Cost to make it happen. “Anybody interested,” Benedict said, “should look me up.”<<

Been to games for both teams; they obviously have talent. Should be at the championship game tomorrow. Was going to go today.

It would be criminally assinine for UConn to even consider adding another money suck. Glad to see that Benedict hasn’t completely lost his mind.

Can’t we replace a money suck where we will always suck on national level with one where we could compete for national championships

Wesleyan up at the half, 5-3. Salisbury has 12 national championships. Wesleyan is seeking their first. Wesleyan dominated the first quarter and had a 4-0 lead till Salisbury scored a goal with 1.8 seconds left in the first quarter. Salisbury scored another 2 in a 3 goal run to make it 4-3, before Wesleyan scores a last goal for the half, making it 5-3. Intense game.

Salisbury scores the first goal of the second half to make it 5-4, then Wesleyan goes on a 3-goal run to finish the third quarter, 8-4.

Salisbury has scored the only goals in the 4th quarter so far, 8-6, Wesleyan. with 3 minutes to go. Salisbury has the ball and called a TO.

With our financial situation? Probably not. There might be 20 people who would care anyways and they all post on this board.

have been to about 10 lax Final Fours over last 15 years. Crowds are declining allowing return to non-NFL stadiums like the Rent. 30,600 yesterday.
Yale's 7 goals in first 7 possessions yesterday was impressive.

If they drop football hopefully they don’t ruin it by wasting money on lacrosse. Jesus buy scratchoffs or bitcoin or anything other than lacrosse.

Its a growing sport, unlike football which will be outlawed due to concussions within your lifetime.

If football gets outlawed due to concussions ... lacrosse won't be far behind.

Eh, I played lacrosse and the whole 'growing sport' narrative is super overblown IMO
I see more and more schools playing it (high schools), both boys and girls. Know a lot of parents that don’t like the health risks in football.

Some Guy sez ya’ll need to get out of the ancient past ;)

Further evidence it’s stupid.

Jeff Jacobs sucking up to SW CT readers blabbing about lacrosse. Seems like a good reason to field another program the school can’t afford.

There was a cornhole tournament on ESPN this weekend. Held in Big 10 country. Why are we not exploiting this opportunity?!?!

Football will not be outlawed. C'mon. Have you seen the TV ratings the NFL draws? London (England, not Ontario) will have a team very soon. Politicians will not outlaw the game of gridiron football. That was considered over 100 years ago.
