So I just turned on the Celts/Bucks game and on the floor...

#90 Amir Johnson
#99 Jae Crowder
#19 Jerryd Bayless
#77 Johnny O'Bryant

#28 RJ Hunter is on the bench
36 Marcus Smart is injured.

So the rant, when did it become "cool" to use stupid numbers in the NBA? Why are there three players on the court with numbers above 55? Am I the only one that finds this utterly asinine? I can see 0-10 being fair game and maybe b/c of historical connotation, 16-18. But any number above 20 ending in 6, 7, 8, 9 should be banned in my opinion. Ok, rant off.

It annoys me... Greatly. I know it's totally irrational.

Good lord, this is about 100x more inane than I imagined it would be.

Then my work to contribute to bad off-season threads is complete... But seriously. Starting at center for your Boston Celtics, #90.... Really?!?

Not gonna lie, I hate it too. It was quirky and funny when Rodman did it.

Notice none of the good/great players do it.

Maybe I don't hate it enough to create a thread about it, but I've always hated it and agreed with most of the OP, so when he got lambasted I thought I'd chime in.

Also makes it impossible for refs to indicate who the foul is on with two hands, each hand representing a digit between 0 and 5. Not sure why the NBA would have changed that.

The Celtics are unique because they have so many retired numbers.

00, 1, 2, 3, 6, 10, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 31, 32, 33, and 35 are gone.

And there is nothing wrong with 19. That's just a weird take on your part.

Might have something to do with having technology available that is somewhat more sophisticated than holding up fingers.

You are right to rant. But what you should be ranting about is that Amir Johnson, Jae Crower, Jerryd Bayless and Johnny O'Bryany are all on the Celtics and on the floor aat the same time.

Except they're not, since Bayless and O'Bryant play for Milwaukee.

Crowder's a very solid role player. There's a place for him on the roster of any playoff contender.

Sometimes the number is significant to the player in some way. Say Kevin Durant and his number 35, here's the story.

I hope you're not a Yankees fan. Pretty soon they're all going to have to start wearing those kind of numbers with all the lower ones being retired.

Hey now watch it. Hilton Armstrong wore #57 and was the best player ever to wear that number in an NBA uniform.
