It took firing the inept former GM to get this done. They never addressed the offensive line and this is what it needed to get fixed or at least better than it was last year
Solder is an average LT (graded out as 32 best tackle in NFL per pro football focus), not worth the money the giants spent. Could have waited and been able to get two good o lineman for the same amount of guarantees as Solder got.
The new gm is starting out shaky, interested to see how he does in the draft.
They should have traded Eli for a 3rd or 4th rounder and released albatross contracts and start fresh. Draft a qb at 2 and lock up the dearth of young talent they have with front loaded contracts.

Two Regardlesses
Regardless of "rating," Solder was a more than servicable blind side protector of the greatest QB of all time and a 2 time Super Bowl Champion.
Regardless of LT, Giants need a quarterback of the future.
There was not a sure-fire Left Tackle in this draft and why they overpaid some for Solder. His rating in the playoffs was pretty good and the Giants couldn't afford another year of Flowers at Left Tackle no matter who is the quarterback.
I liked they keep Eli for all he has done for the Giants in his time there. I am not sure any of these quarterbacks are the next big thing.
