OT - Name The Movies You Have To Watch When On TV

Money Talks and the Rush Hour Trilogy... but I hate when they switch out the foul language on network TV (TBS TNT ABC)

I bought a region free bluray player so that I could buy cheap imports from amazon UK.

I now spend several hours every week watching my favorites with my son.
He is slowly developing a taste for the classics.

Among my purchases from Amazon UK:

1. Harry Potter complete Bluray £ 16
2. Sherlock Holmes Jeremy Brett complete (Spanish edition) bluray. You can run it in English/Spanish.
3. All Creatures great and small DVD. Was selling at £ 21 last month.
4. Inspector Morse complete DVD
5. Campion complete DVD
6. Miss Marple complete DVD (Danish edition) £ 11 or 12
7. As Time goes by complete (in two parts)
8. Fawlty towers complete
9. Allo Allo
10. The complete doctor series (Doctor in the house etc)
11.The Forsyte saga (ITV version in color)
12. Woman in white

and so on.

On tap: Sharpe's rifles (the complete Sharpe collection), MASH (cheaper here), Keeping up appearances

I have not neglected Costco and Amazon USA

Over the years I have bought, Dickens, Jane Austen, Rumpole, I Claudius and a lot more.
On amazon, the used DVDs are often a big bargain.

I would strongly urge you to explore Oscar Wilde, Bernard Shaw, Prime Suspect and Ken Burns (PBS).

Bullitt (Steve McQueen and the original best car chase scene ever)
Alien (Sigourney Weaver and the original best Sci-Fi horror film that set the standard)
A Boy and his dog (Don Johnson in post-apocalyptic world with a funny/bizarre ending)
Prometheus (What happens when one has the ability to try and go meet one's "maker")
Divergent (Aren't we all? Best line: "Don't think...jump!")
...
I agree with many of other posters favorites - But, I didn't see these particular ones listed.

I get it, too, kibitzer, but wasn't it just Stup?

Good Q. List of cast says Shtupp.

Now that I'm awake -- I must add The Sting to my list. A movie that has many unique and creative touches, Newman and Redford at their best, and the ultimate surprise ending. :)

Someone mentioned car chases (Bullett?). I suggest Ronin, a Frankenheimer film with incredible car chases in France. Possibly best ever.

Fearless - Jet Li
Fist of legend- Jet Li
IP Man -Donny Yen

Any Tarantino movie
Any Coen Brothers movie
Godfather 1/2
Goodfellas
The Departed
A Few Good Men
It's not on much but Point Blank
Lethal Weapon 2
Most Connery, Brosnan or Craig Bond movies

Aliens
Blade Runner
The Fifth Element

LOTR trilogy
Star Trek (Shatner/Nimoy movies)
Avengers / Iron Man / Captain America
Back to the Future trilogy but especially 1 & 2

I would list Star Wars original trilogy but it's not on syndication generally...

Tommy Boy, of course... And good call on Shaun of the Dead, I've seen that one a bunch of times too.

Funny how times change...when I was a kid I thought the crop duster buzzing Cary Grant in North by Northwest was really scary!

For me it was the flying monkeys in the Wizard of Oz.

Shawshank

A Few Good Men

Godfather 1 & 2

Goodfellas

Talladega Nights

Superbad

Thelma & Louise (now that all the "OT" threads are off the MBB board - oh & Cacoon (that would also fit nicely in movie franchise thread.

Welcome WBB posters!

.-.
Casino
Good Fellas
Shawshank Redemption
Boys in the Hood

The Exorcist
Braveheart
Silverado
Anything with John Wayne
Robin Hood Men In Tights (I know, I know....my kids LOVED this movie and I've probably seen it 30 times)
Let me add Animal House and Blues Brothers. I can't believe no one else had these on their lists!

Unless they are on HBO or another movie channel I refuse to watch. Something about Uma Thurman calling Vivica A. Fox a "jerkface" right before she throws a knife in her chest upsets me. I can't stand censorship and cutting down of scenes when I know what is said and happens. I'm difficult that way.
The worst IMHO was Slapshot when they replaced "dyke" with "lesbian". Using a 3 syllable word in a 1 syllable hole is very disconcerting.

Slapshot is one of the movies that I have to watch when it is on television. I'm guessing there are a couple hundred others as well.

Brett's Sherlock, Rumpole and Morse are all favorites of mine. Have you seen Foyle's War? I think it may be the best of them all.

True Grit
The Quiet Man
12 Angry Men
A Few Good Men
Shawshank Redemption
Unforgiven
The Cowboys
Kill Bill 1

Most I'd name have been mentioned, however I must note that after umpteen viewings I've finally gotten picky/tired about the following;
The Outlaw Josey Wales - once he meets up with Sandra Locke I'm out, prior to that still in
Goodfellas - first 3/4 until Tommy gets whacked
Jaws - I need to see Quint's speech, if I'm in before that then will watch till the end
Stripes - This one's obvious, the first 3/4 of the movie is great, then goes off the rails after the graduation

New
Rocky (sequels I can watch scenes check in & out, but original is a movie - I'm all in anywhere)
Officer & A Gentleman - Only if 'I got nowhere else to go'

.-.
