He's New York to me. I think it has to be where the person/band is based and associated with.

Well he doesn't qualify per the OP anyway (bands, not people), but I still associate him with where he's from.

Fine. But now you have to name 4 other Hibbing musical acts. And Kevin McHale has terrible pitch, so forget him.

Zimmy became Dylan while living in "Dinkytown," a then-hip section of Minneapolis, where Prince is from. I'd put those two up against any other American city's five in terms of their respective individual influences on music.

San Francisco:

Grateful Dead
Sly & The Family Stone
Santana
Janis Joplin/Big Brother & The Holding Company
Jefferson Airplane

Those acts are all of a certain, um, "vintage," but they're all Hall of Famers.

SF's JV team would be pretty good, too. And this excludes Oakland/San Jose, etc.

I'd find a way to put Journey on that list. Probably bumping Sly

.-.
You could easily do a Los Angeles 2nd Team:

•Red Hot Chili Peppers
•Eagles
•Beach Boys
•Los Lobos
•Weezer

Or....
•Jane's Addiction
•The Byrds

Eagles and Beach Boys would be first team on my LA list.
  • Van Halen
  • Beach Boys
  • G n R
  • Eagles
  • Doors
  • Metallica or maybe The Byrds

Brent Smith classic rocker lead singer voice, superb. They do a great version of Simple Man too

Ok I remember that song. Eh.
Is the ballerina the little boy's mom* or sister**?!

* Goodbye isn't a 2nd chance, its irresponsible & Mom, Dad & kid are further screwed
** Why is the kid even in the video then? Just to add a smidgeon of remorse for leaving the dysfunctional family?

Chicago
  • Chicago
  • Styx
  • Earth Wind and Fire
  • Cheap Trick (stretching a bit to Rockford)
  • Smashing Pumpkins
Honorable mention to The Buckinghams and Fall Out Boy. REO Speedwagon is from Champaign, but that's just too far.

Rivers Cuomo grew up in Enfield until he was 18, FWIW...

.-.
Chicago Rock
Wilco
Smashing Pumpkins
Chicago
Styx
REO Speedwagon
Blues
Muddy Waters
Willie Dixon
Buddy Guy
Mavis Staples
Mike Bloomfield

Add Replacements & Husker Du, then a big dropoff.

.-.
Austin,TX
Janis Joplin
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Willie Nelson
Spoon
Lucinda Williams
Gary Clark Jr.
Iron and Wine
Townes van Zandt
Butthole Surfers
Alejandro Escovedo
That's a good starting 10

Miles Davis & Ike Turner were both from East St. Louis.

Ike Turner's Rocket 88, some say, is the first Rock & Roll song in history.

As for Miles...

In 1987 the jazz trumpeter and group leader Miles Davis attended a White House reception in honor of Ray Charles with his wife at the time, the actress Cicely Tyson. When a woman asked him what he had done to be invited, he answered: ''Well, I've changed music four or five times. . . ."

I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

Maybe Jefferson Airplane, but Steve Perry can't hold Sly Stewart's jock.

No.
I thought the same thing. And the reason I decided to throw Jefferson Airplane under the bus is because of the whole Starship thing, which resulted in the worst song in history, "We Built This City." That song is a crime against humanity.

Due to tremendous drop in quality in relatively short time, I'd drop Jefferson Airplane in favor of Flamin' Groovies, but I recognize that on The Boneyard more people would go with Steve Miller Band.

I also prefer Hot Tuna to Jefferson whatever, and Journey falls far short of Tower of Power, Mohy Grape, Quicksilver Messenger Service, all kinds of bands. Or Green Day, Dead Kennedys, and The Rubinoos, if coming from the direction that yielded the Groovies.
