He is a classic....

He's New York to me. I think it has to be where the person/band is based and associated with.
Well he doesn't qualify per the OP anyway (bands, not people), but I still associate him with where he's from.
Zimmy became Dylan while living in "Dinkytown," a then-hip section of Minneapolis, where Prince is from. I'd put those two up against any other American city's five in terms of their respective individual influences on music.Fine. But now you have to name 4 other Hibbing musical acts. And Kevin McHale has terrible pitch, so forget him.
San Francisco:
Grateful Dead
Sly & The Family Stone
Santana
Janis Joplin/Big Brother & The Holding Company
Jefferson Airplane
Those acts are all of a certain, um, "vintage," but they're all Hall of Famers.
SF's JV team would be pretty good, too. And this excludes Oakland/San Jose, etc.
Where's Birmingham? LOL
Dropkick Murphys
Extreme
Godsmack
The Lemonheads
Staind
You could easily do a Los Angeles 2nd Team:
•Red Hot Chili Peppers
•Eagles
•Beach Boys
•Los Lobos
•Weezer
Or....
•Jane's Addiction
•The Byrds
Brent Smith classic rocker lead singer voice, superb. They do a great version of Simple Man too

I'll give it a shot:
Detroit:
Bob Seger
Ted Nugent
Alice Cooper
Grand Funk Railroad
(Struggling on the 5th, I'll go w Brownsville Station solely for "Smokin in the Boysroom")
MC5, !
(Wait, that was a literary reference. How'd it pass the filter?)

I'd find a way to put Journey on that list. Probably bumping Sly
Well I'm familiar with MC5 but I'll have to check out !MC5, !

Austin,TX
Janis Joplin
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Willie Nelson
Spoon
Lucinda Williams
Gary Clark Jr.
Iron and Wine
Townes van Zandt
Butthole Surfers
Alejandro Escovedo
That's a good starting 10
I thought the same thing. And the reason I decided to throw Jefferson Airplane under the bus is because of the whole Starship thing, which resulted in the worst song in history, "We Built This City." That song is a crime against humanity.I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.
Maybe Jefferson Airplane, but Steve Perry can't hold Sly Stewart's jock.
No.
