OT: most POETIC non-Dylan rock 'n roll songs?

Clever, touching, beautiful and smart. A masterclass in how to write a love song.

"Over hearts I have painfully turned every stone
Just to find what I've searched to discover
I've come much to far for me now to find
The love that I sought can never be mine(d?)

Incredible.

I just called to say

Anyone else here sit in the rain for over an hour past show time for Ray Charles to come out of his trailer and perform at Brookdale? Called a digression. Anyone biting?

No question in my mind about the Moody Blues and Jethro Tull, both were highly creative bands with terrific music. For that matter, Little Feat was a superbly innovative group when Lowell George was alive and the driving force behind them. Can't agree more on Bob Welch - that's a shame. I believe there was animosity between Welch and Mick Fleetwood....that's the reason why he wasn't included.
I saw all three back in the 70's and Tull was by far the most interesting in person. I saw them 3x, but they did this only once.

Just read that Walter Becker, guitarist and song co-writer for Steely Dan, has died at age 67. Damn....

Contribution from Gordon Lightfoot, beautifully done by Ian & Sylvia:

Have not been able to get the song out of my head since you posted it. "Big 767 set to go..." ;)

In the early days of FM radio I used to use the break starting at 6:17 from this song between every song on my 4 hour show. Never spoke a word. I loved it, but it drove some folks crazy.

This always gets to me, and this version is from Hartford 5/28/77, which some consider an amazing string of concerts from the Grateful Dead. Some may even say that Jerry's playing is poetic.

For many of us who are getting a tad bit up there in years, this song is especially poignant:

I listened to this three times during my run today. I've loved this song for some time -- the lyrics are really poignant. But today it really struck me how poetic they are.

How about:

"I can't get no--satisfaction....
But I try and I try and...'

sophisticated, polished, artistic to the extreme.:)

This line has long stayed with me:
"Like a merchant in a market of thieves, I came displaying my wares to you.
But you saw through all the fear in my eyes and made me be what I am.

I could list a dozen or more songs each from Joni Mitchell and Jackson Brown. I have no idea how to insert a picture or a U-Tube shot into this reply.

Jackson Brown, with an assist from Glenn Frey---

I'm a-standin' on a corner in Winslow Arizona
Such a fine sight to see
It's a girl, my Lord,
In a flatbed Ford
Slowin' down to take a look at me

I don't know if you could call it Rock and Roll but it is poetry...."There was a boy"
A little more modern, the Jeff Buckley version of "Hallelujah".
And for the younger ones amongst us "The Librarian", by My Morning Jacket.

Can someone give me a quick How To on copying a you tube to a post?
Thanks,

Anyone else here sit for over an hour and a half past show time for Jimmy Cliff to come out and perform at Carnegie Hall? . . . and when he finally came out, he only performed for 45 minutes ending with a song called "Mr. Ripoff Man."
