CNN is reporting the possibility of massive snow fall between NYC and Boston over the next 2 days. Up to 1' in NYC and 3' in Boston. I hope you folks are ready. Absolutely, do not let Morgan Tuck outside! :)

Oddly the only thing I can think of on this topic of a snow storm was a Raven player making confetti angels after the "Big Game".

Talking about "historic" proportions - up to 4-5 feet snow drifts. Haven't seen snow carp like that since I lived in the wilds of South Dakota.

My employer already sent an email that our CT offices are closing at 1:00 PM tomorrow, and encouraging anyone with the ability to work from home to do so.

I have worked for this company for 23 years. Up until the last few years I do not ever recall them announcing ahead of time an early closing. They have done so three times now in the last two years. Of course, up until a few years ago they made us take a vacation day if we decided our health and safety was more important than driving into work - even those who had laptops and DID have the ability to work remotely.

The downside of their encouraging us to work from home? The infrastructure can't really support the volume of people who will be working remote. If you are not logged into VPN before 7:00 AM, you may as well kiss your productivity goodbye for the day.

Storm of "historic proportions": the Blizzard of '88 (that's 1888):

Don't forget the blizzard of 1978. Two feet of snow and winds approaching hurricane force. Governor Ella Grasso closed all state roads.

I wasn't living here then, but I remember some of the "old timers" at work talking about people who came into work then couldn't get home and had to stay in Hartford, in the office, for a couple of days. I think I would go into full fledged insanity if that were to happen to me.

CNN was comparing this to 1978.

Chapette, my organization had the same issue. Due to weather or possible pandemic, we were supposed to telework. But I don't think we had the capacity for more than 50% of employees, if that.

I'm kind of thinking of "over sleeping" and then trying to log in around 9:00...:D

Just watching the Weather Channel and hearing that the storm should hit New England in the afternoon. Bad timing: decent weather in the AM will fool people into thinking it won't be that bad, but by the evening commute. . . Bring your jammies with you, folks!

Boy, do I remember that one. Left the center of Hartford around 4PM in my trusty Volkswagen Beetle equipped with studded snow tires. Never got stuck but couldn't get over Avon Mountain because the radio kept saying all of the roads were closed. Drove and drove and finally in desperation said F.I. and headed over the mountain to Simsbury. No cops, no cars, no nothing. Went straight over and thru West Simsbury and finally arrived home around 10PM. Was driving through 2 - 2 1/2 ft of snow by the time I got to the house. Unforgettable.

This is going to suck so much. I really, really hate blizzards. Snow drifts are the worst.

I also picked an awful time come down with a wretched head cold. Nothing like clearing out a driveway with a temporarily weakened respiratory system.

I always work from home (unless I'm travelling), so tomorrow will be no different. Except I'll be sitting here trying to work with a five year old and a three year old bouncing off the walls. And I'll be sick as a dog. Yippee.

Not many advantages of being old but one of them is getting to South Florida on Feb 1 and not having to deal with 2 feet of snow. I'll be playing 18 tomorrow in 80+ degree sunshine. Good luck to my younger fellow CT citizens.

Hi Folks.

Any of you who have "too much snow" can just ship it up to Vermont.
The more the merrier. The skiers will love it. And two feet of snow hardly affects travel up here. We have snow plows and shovels. And all wheel drive.

And life goes on.

I hope the DePaul girls make it to Hartford.

Odd for me. We were to visit family near Syracuse starting Friday. I live near New Haven. We decided to drive today instead of being unable to leave tomorrow. At Syracuse now. Very little snow on the ground now. Tomorrow we get an edge of the storm but maybe 8 inches and schools usually don't call off. How often can you escape snow in CR by heading to Syracuse. The kid next door is supposed to do my shoveling while we're basking in the warmth of Onandaga County.

In 1978 I remember very well the huge drifts. My boys were all little. I started to shovel and my back went. My poor wife had to finish about 75% of the work.

'78 hit in NJ too, I was in my final year at RU. We were on a bus to class, when class was cancelled. The only way we got back to the residential area was to push the bus through several slip sliding spots. Course, now a days they would never let the student passengers push the bus, but it was a different time.

Later, I had to work my job at the local art theatre - and the owner made me climb a ladder and change the marquee to reflect $1.00 admission - this after a buddy and I had to shovel the fronts of both theatres he owned (the other was X-rated) - I don't know how many perv's showed up there, but we had 7 people all day. Never forget that. $7.00 receipts - and for that I risked my life and near froze.

There was a whopper back in March '56.

I remember coming to a friends house after a concert with a few musicians from Queens College
and we got stranded for 3 days in Larelton Queens with our unlucky hosts the Rhodes'
parents of the future violist of the Juilliard String Quartet.

I'm sure Stef will have her sleds at the ready, giving the Texan lessons on the finer points of heading down hill without running into a tree.
