OT: Mohegan Sun pre-concert dining/drinking advice?

Heading to see Prince at Mohegan Sun Arena tonight. Yes, Prince.

Don't go to the casino other than for occasional concerts or the alumni game and have only eaten at a BBQ place that is no longer there (Big Bubba's?) and the Italian restaurant that looks like San Galgano (Ballo). Anyone have some good recommendations for a place where I can sit at a bar to grab a few drinks and decent meal beforehand? Prefer a place with decent beer, but could deal with decent wine instead if the place is preferable overall.

Tuscany was solid not spectacular. I, like you, only go down on occasion but the regulars I go with tend to visit this place fairly regularly. Enjoy the concert I bet he puts on a good show.

If I was going to go see Prince I would need to get good and hammered…….so Lansdowne Irish Pub is a nice spot to have some Beef Stew and Smithwicks & Paddy's…….lol….have fun!

I didn't realize he was in CT - just checked to get tickets, and while there are some available, Holy Sheet they are expensive. The reviews of the shows are great, it sounds like he is really doing great shows.

There is a new BBQ place where the old one used to be called Virgil's which is decent enough and they had a good beer selection when I went. It pretty much all depends on what you are trying to spend and what you want to eat. Hash House a go go has some good choices but I prefer them for breakfast over dinner (though you can order many of the breakfast items for dinner). Also agree w/ Bobby Flays Burger Palace being a good choice for a quick meal

23 Café doesn't take reservations, so you put your name in and either play a few games, go to their bar (1st come, 1st serve), or go to the martini bar across the way. The menu at 23 Café is more varied including a couple steaks that are available at the Steakhouse.

This is why I'm going. He's on my bucket list. Never seen him live before, and several friends and acquaintances who, like me, have seen hundreds and hundreds of shows swear that he is hands down the single most impressive live performer they have ever seen. With that rep, I figure I've gotta see it for myself.

I'd have to agree- It seems like you want something casual and they have great food and drinks- plus the bar is pretty big, so it's not hard to get a seat and enjoy the meal there.

I hear it's a great show....just don't expect a set of his greatest hits. You get your $$ worth as he does 25-30 songs. 75% of which are "newer" tunes.

I didn't find about it myself until fairly recently, and I also balked at the prices. But after passing on some recent, expensive area shows by some of my favorites whom I have seen several times (Van Morrison, Bonnie Raitt), I decided that I should make an exception for him because I have never seen him before.

I was also debating whether to buy beforehand or take my chances trying to find a less expensive ticket at the show from someone who needs to get rid of one, but a few friends were convinced it would sell out quickly so I picked one up already. If I hadn't, I'd be feeling pretty good about my chances because it looks like none of the three shows have sold out and I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of tickets available below face at all the shows. There are already several tickets on craigslist for face or below.

Bobby's Burger is very good, we eat there every time we go to Mohegan. I really like the buffet as well, its $25 after 5 pm but its worth it if youre in the mood to eat.

Mention 'TWITTER' at the seasons buffet and you get it for $15.

Bobby Burger Palace probably your best deal in terms of a filling and delicious meal on the cheap.

As for drinks.... try to get a spot at a bar and play some video poker or something. Drinks are free as long as youre gambling (even if its not that much).

I check a number of different sites regularly for area concert info. I also get emails from the Sun and Foxwoods about their specific venues and this is the first I've heard about Prince playing in CT.

Sometimes I feel like if it wasn't for the Boneyard I wouldn't know anything at all.

Tons of good spots. The bar @ MJ steakhouse, MJ sports cafe, Virgil's BBQ, Landsdowne Irish pub, Solo (Mexican) or even Buffet's, which is a further walk from Arena.

Thanks for the link. Nice write-up. It's funny: I've got no shame at all about being a fan of the guy, but I do get some interesting reactions from some guys (all women love the guy). Bottom line for me is that he's an exceptional artist and performer.

I thought it was a great show. Non-stop funk jam for the most part. I'm not a big fan of the venue, and true to character the sound was pretty spotty. The crowd was also a very interesting mix--I think they must have comped a bunch of good seats to blue hairs who had no idea what they were in for, some of whom left within the first hour. But no complaints about Prince and his fine band. They came and delivered.

Anyone with any interest should try to catch one of the next two nights. Deals aplenty from what I observed. Many of the $200 tickets have been marked down to $130 by the venue itself, and private deals are probably even better.

I targeted Jordan's 23 Cafe but there were no seats at the bar so I moved on to Bobby Flay's burger joint and the Hash House, both of which were also packed at the bar. I finally returned to Ballo, scored a seat at the bar (coincidentally next to some old friends) and enjoyed an excellent meal and some great wine.
