I don't think Ollie leaves his "dream job" already, especially to be set up for failure with a bad Lakers team and a fan base that expects to win regardless of what the roster looks like.

But it's an interesting question. Hypothetically, let's say he leaves. What does Warde do? Who's our next coach? The Lakers (or the Thunder for that matter) won't announce a hire before the playoffs end in June, and by then we'll have missed out on any "top candidates". It'd be a disaster and I'm sure we'd lose a few if not most of our big recruits.

I almost think Jimmy C would have to come back and coach next year.

You can be almost guaranteed that JC would be back if KO left. Two things:

1. KO won't leave now. It would be very insulting to JC after what he did for him. But....

2. If JC were told that he is the man if KO bolts, would JC then support KO going to the NBA? We all know or at least think JC wants to coach on some level.

I don't think KO is going anywhere. He is just settling in to a normal life for the first time in 15 years. He won't move to California or Oklahoma to coach and leave his alma mater. He is living the dream and the only motivator to go to the NBA is money. KO isn't motivated by money, he has lots of money, he is making more than enough money and he's about to make a lot more. I say he's here 10+ years and at that point, he may just be a lifer.

Even Calipari has realized he's not a good enough coach for the NBA. His in game management is mediocre which works in college. Heck Rick Barnes gets by while being horrible in game.

I would put Ollie at good but not great, yet.

I helps other schools if Ollie's name hangs out there...not sure how it helps UConn. I thought you were going to say for Ollie to let it hang out there to help his bargaining position...which could be true. Otherwise...this just hurts recruiting.

Hasn't hurt Coach Cal, Izzo, or Donovan over the years.

Happy days are here again! Mike D'Antoni resigns as the Lakers coach. I couldn't be happier!

Stay classy Magic……..

Thought the same thing. This is coming from a guy who wants to buy the Clippers too.

I think Calipari is in a different position. I do commend him for making the statement quickly, but I think he did it because he can't gain anything by letting it linger. I think he is content at KY for now and doubts on his Kentucky tenure would just hurt recruiting (not that it seems to have hurt him in the past). He's not getting more money from KY so if he's not going to LA, just put a stop to it.

In Ollie's case, I think he has to let it linger for a little bit, but not for long. Rumors can help him get better terms out of UConn, and can even help with recruiting (but that's a slippery slope). He and Warde need to come to an agreement quickly so that it can be announced as quashing any NBA rumors.

I agree. But, but being mentioned for the L.A.,OKC, and whatever jobs open are great PR for a young coach like Ollie. Kids notice that stuff. Of course Ollie will tell the kids he is interested in that he isnt going anywhere and I don't see it as anything but a positive.

Recruits commit to the coach. It does the program little good for him to keep his name out there. If he allows rumors to persist, recruits will be hesitant. He has already generated enough NBA buzz through Lebron and KD for recruits to be happy.

KO has done the same on CBS's morning show and Mike & Mike
He said he wasn't contacted and D'Antoni was still the coach. Things changed. He atleast needs to acknowledge it and tweet he isn't interested. Better yet, announce an extension. In no way does his name being dangled by the media everywhere helps with recruiting.

Lakers can hire Jim Calhoun. When Ollie's Ready Calhoun can turn over the Lakers to him.

lol, that's not what he said at all. I just don't see the point in announcing you're not interested in a job that hasn't been offered, leave that stuff for the attention whores like Calipari. KO has said in several media outlets that the NBA isn't for him at this time in his life, he's out recruiting, making in home visits with his targets and had been in contact with others, I'm sure he's expressed his intentions of still being the coach of UConn.

As much as I want to believe Ollie is 100% Uconn right now, and I hate the NBA personally, it would be foolish for him not to listen if they call.

Sure he has a great gig here and is 110% loved and admired at Uconn, and the Lakers don't have much talent besides an old Kobe, but it is still the Lakers, one of the most prestigious sports franchises that owns the 2nd largest city in the country which is also KO's hometown.

KO is young and can afford to take a chance or opportunity if it arises even if it turns sour he could still recover. I want him to get a big, fat, highest paid in the country type contract to stay at Uconn for a long time but I would congratulate and be happy for him if he chose otherwise.

But the rumors of going to the NBA each year haven't hurt recruiting at all.

Kevin Ollie is out recruiting right now. The only reason people want him to publicly state there is no interest is for their own comfort, not for recruiting purposes.

pretty much, I mean Cal has been linked to the Knicks job for pretty much every year Melo has been there(before Phil came onboard) because of the agency connection, he's still getting stacked classes every year.

No one thinks/hopes that Ollie would consider any NBA job right now. His actions have shown nothing for us to think otherwise. The statement was made that by Ollie keeping his name out there as long as possible, that in some way that will help with recruits. It just won't. DHam has stated that he hopes to come to Storrs for the first summer session. Do you really think that happens if Ollie allows his name to be continuously linked?

Having ESPN analyst talk about what a great young coach Ollie is for a few weeks only helps

A couple of the beat guys have tweeted this morning that Ollie would owe Uconn $2.5M if he were to leave this year.

Wait, that's more than we make from the AAC contract. Maybe we should be advocating for Kevin Ollie to take another job...
