From what I understand, the applications were due last month, and the "winners" will be selected no later than February 2014.

What are the realistic timelines for the casinos actually being open for business?

I live a couple miles from Palmer, one of the potential sites. Can anyone who lives near Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun give me their opinion on the pros and cons?

Casinos suck the life out of local town..have a friend and her family who lives in norwich. The town was sold on growth and they think it is worse..casino have everything thing you need and people drive through local towns

Is it the casino's that have assisted in the fact that area has what many say is a real high usage of heroin and addicts?? Or was it already?? I mean I hear stories of Norwich and Willimantic being ravaged with drugs although I do not know!! But casino's, gambling, loss of finances etc etc make me think although I am only speculating?

Norwich and Willimantic had issues before casino and during. Driving through norwich to play low stakes poker, it still looks like a shithole

Yeah it does..........I drive through it quite often this time of year when we play winter golf in Westerly and during the daylight I am starting to recognize the bums in downtown hanging out on corners I think. Tiough town now too bad...........I had always heard about Willimantic though I admit

Kinda like The Rent. But casinos do create jobs.

Willinantic has been that way forever. It's because it is a stopover heroin distribution hub for the providence mob.

Willimantic has been a drug town since the textile industry went overseas. Now heroin and prostitution has taken over because many lost their livelihoods. Heroin can destroy a community in no time at all.
