OT: MAL Transferring

Shooting splits (2s/3s/FTs):

MAL: 41%/25%/56%
Tarin Smith at UConn: 49%/23%/63%

So, if you want a worse version of Tarin Smith, then yes, he's a perfect fit.

Good kid.

I think the year away from games will help him.

But not here.

You’d think he’d be likely to take a step down, but I’m guessing there’ll be pressure on him to aim higher.

Just for fun...

This is just speculation

Would be stunned if we took him.
You can't say "DEVELOPING" when all you have to say is pure speculation.
If we take MAL, we are in a worse spot for the next couple years of recruiting than I thought. And I don't think we are in a bad spot recruiting wise. So I don't believe this is true whatsoever. He's not coming here.

I think taking him might end up hurting our chances with his brother. I don't think he'll play, and he probably wouldn't be happy with that.

He's not coming here.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say she has no clue what she's talking about. She knows MAL picked UConn before Providence and that we have interest in his younger brother, she tried to make it look like some sort of breaking news by starting her tweet off with "Developing." There is nothing developing here.

Let's get Zach Brown while we're at it.
You mean Jessica Turberry? I believe she’s still in jail.

This is a better tweet...

The fact that Hurley follows her on twitter and liked this tweet is causing me some concern that she may actually have information on us getting involved with MAL, which obviously would be a mistake.

Don't worry.

I'm all the way out on MAL.

He takes what - a year off and then we get him two more years here? Doing what, exactly? There's a real chance you're still looking at Gaffney/Bouknight/Gilbert/Smith.... where does he fit or more precisely - where does someone with legit upside fit if he's clogging up the pipe?

It's certainly possible a different coach and situation can make MAL a solid player. But we simply don't have a scholarship to use on a guy who can't play. Hell, we were hoping to get Hunter because he can play with no scholarship.

Think of it this way. We could either use the scholarship for:

A) 1 year of a grad transfer + 2 years of an untainted Hurley 2020 recruit
B) 1 year of MAL sitting out + 2 years of MAL

Is there even an argument? I'd hope Hurley thinks more highly of his own recruiting.

Would we take MAL if it guaranteed his brother coming here? (hypothetically speaking of course)

Conspiracy Kitty expects the brothers to play here together in 2020. Remember Hurley will have a whole year to work with MAL before his first game.

That FT% suggests he can actually shoot, though. Lots of players have rough shooting freshmen years and then look good later.

Good point. Anyone can have a down year and explode the following year. Take Neil’s Giffey as a good example - 29% from 3 his jr year and 48% his sr year. Couldn’t have happened at a better time too!
