Holy Transformation Batman!

Bet Dallas wishes he committed to this a little sooner. I watched some early clips when he first came into the league and he was so much quicker. He could even defend.

Have to imagine there are some very annoyed Dallas fans. Pretty funny.

Everyone saying Dallas is mad, they should be, they caused this. If you couldn’t see “Luka is now committed to being in shape” you weren’t looking.

I'm pretty sure a lot of his personal issues with Dallas stemmed from the way they treated strength and conditioning staff that Luka thought were helping to keep him healthy.

Particularly, they fired Casey Smith, whom "...Dirk Nowitzki credited for prolonging the Hall of Famer's 21-year career." Rumor has it that also led to Nowitzki distancing himself a bit from the organization. Supposedly, Smith was also a big help to Luka during his transition to life in America. Dallas fired Smith via a video call while he was away from the team to be with his mother during the last weeks of her life. That led to Luka hiring his own conditioning and strength coaches which just made the situation even worse when Dallas didn't like the results.

Disagree. Why couldn’t Dallas get him to get in this shape? Shame on them.

This is a minor transformation given his physical gifts. Great that he’s working at it, but this didn’t take much when compared to how the average pro athlete works out. For him to lose 15-20 lbs and lift some weights isn’t much to ask. So yes, Mav fans should definitely be pissed.

O.K. I will answer my own question. His contract is up after this coming season (2025-2026) but he has a player option for the 2026-2027 season at $49 million. So now I know why he's finally decided to take his body seriously. It's always about the money!

There was a 0.0% chance of him not getting a max contract even before he decided to get into shape

So you can be fat and out of shape and still get a max contract? What a country. :)

FWIW Dallas supposedly got rid of him because they didn't want to give a max contract to a guy they thought was an injury risk because he was fat. Who's to say other teams wouldn't think the same if he had a bad year and got injured?

Michael Kay and David Cone were just chatting with a guest in their booth. The camera showed them and I thought, 'who is that? He's thin and fit.' Thought he was an injured Yankee. Nope. It was Luca.

The trade was incredibly stupid on the part of Dallas but not because Luka was committed to being in shape when he was with them. The Mavs are a dysfunctional organization but he still should've taken getting in shape seriously before now.

Lakers were bailed out like they're always bailed out and Dallas was bailed out getting the #1 pick Flagg.

He's a top 5 player in the league, if Dallas or now Los Angeles didn't want to give him the max there would be 25 other teams gutting their team to clear the cap space for him.

Look at the guys who are getting max contracts in the NBA. Jaren Jackson Jr just signed a max contract this year, and averages 58 games a year (and only 66 if you take out his big injury year). Paul George got a max contract last offseason too

So they traded him for a max guy who got injured his second (third?) day on the team. Brilliant.

No, I’m saying it was obvious the second they traded him he would be committed to exactly what they wanted him to be…but for the Lakers.

He’s in line for the extension this weekend. As navery said, he was getting a max contract. He was a top 5 player at 24 being allegedly “out of shape” so you sound silly calling him fat.

One of the 50 reasons it was an awful trade is because they could have traded him for almost anyone in the league plus picks, yet they traded him STRAIGHT UP for a guy that skinny and injury prone and old. But go off.

He definitely looks different.

He was fat and out of shape (for an NBA player). What's silly about that? He's admitted it by getting in better shape now. And most people who follow the NBA said he was fat. Do a Google search for "Luka Doncic fat and out of shape" and see how much comes up. You think he wasn't fat and out of shape?

He was still great. Could he have been better? I guess he thinks so since he's getting in better shape.

Because other people on the internet, i.e. the “hater report” on twitter, called him fat that makes you correct? I’d suggest not to do everything the hater report does, but that’s just a suggestion.

He may have been in less than ideal shape for nba superstardom (though he was there, so still technically wrong), but you also brought up whether he’d get a max contract, etc. so yeah, you sound silly just saying “he’s fat and out of shape” 50x in one post.

A random internet poster could easily call a top 5 player in the world “not in ideal basketball shape” or “could have been even better if he was in GREAT shape” and sound reasonable.

You, a random internet guy or gal, calling him fat multiple times while questioning if he’d get a max contract because he’s fat, sounds silly.

Also, getting in great shape for an upcoming season doesn’t automatically mean “he admitted he was fat and out of shape.” You just concluded that yourself, which is another issue I have with your post.

Hope this helps.
