In last nights Linx vs Mercury game the refs were beyond terrible and Linx HC Cheryl Reeve was ejected in the 4th quarter and was irate at the post game presser!

Much discussion of this in the semis thread here: WNBA Semifinals - who you got?

I don’t even like Cheryl Reeves but I’ve gotta say, I’m with her 100% on her reaction to the officiating! It is literally a disgrace! I just don’t understand why the league stands for it! Get some better Refs! Kudos to her for standing up for her players!

Kudos to Cheryl Reeves for finally being specific about the lack of quality officiating in the WNBA game. Coaches have danced around it, trying not to be fined by being general. Cheryl called out the three officials for this game as being "f---g awful", saying that these guys being semi-final material is malpractice. She already has been suspended, but someone had to really get to the point, and being the end of the year it had to be said. Congrats to her and I hope something good can come from this.

Reeve is not just another coach. 4 WNBA championships, head coach of the Olympic team, a sure hall of famer. I'm not a fan of hers, but I share her anger at what has happened to the WNBA game. Becky Hammon and Stephanie White have expressed their displeasure, also, but neither has the stature of Reeve. As the players have become so very talented , the games have become almost unwatchable at times, and it will only get worse if nothing is done. Reeve's tirade may just be the thing to get the WNBA to finally get on it, hopefully over the off season.

Saw the game, watched Cheryl's interview. If you haven't seen her interview, it is worth 2 minutes of your time.

Basically Cheryl is saying the the overly zealous physicality is bad for the sport, hurts players, causes fights, increases fouls - all the things that any UConn fan knows from watching the lesser skilled teams mug the Huskies in an attempt to intimidate, disrupt play, gain an edge when the skill base to compete is just not present.

As a result, we all hold our breath as players crash to the ground clutching injured body parts hoping for the best. UConn is not the only victim here nor are the Lynx. I'm a long time women's fan & love the skill set, grace, fluidity & basketball acumen many top teams possess and I get the pleasure to watch - WNBA, WNCAA.

To my eye the "if you can't compete, just rough em up" strategy detracts from the game. This isn't rugby or the UFC, it is a presentation of skill from talented women who have practiced their entire lives, thousands of hours, to perfect it and present to the public in an orchestrated team event.

But, as Cheryl references, for some reason the ruling clique think violence is more marketable than skill. Appears she is correct.

Hope she & Phee are okay.

Would say most BYers on the board know this based on how most have been making the same comments as Reeve, Hammon and White have throughout the season.

Freedom of movement is now a joke in the WNBA. Its leading to the best players spending huge portions of the season injured. Every team knows if they are out gunned, they can just make the 4th quarter a wrestling match and probably win. The refs won't do anything about it....

The Wnba is now charging people for speaking truthfully.

LAS VEGAS — Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve’s outburst about officiating after Napheesa Collier’s injury in Game 3 of the WNBA semifinals and her subsequent Game 4 suspension has cost her a fine of $15,000, a source with knowledge of the fine told The Athletic on Monday. Reeve charged at an official during the game, appeared to direct profanity at the Phoenix crowd on her way out and called for “change in leadership at the league level when it comes to officiating.”

Reeve’s assistants, Eric Thibault and Rebekkah Brunson, were both fined $500 for their roles in the incident. Friday, two more coaches, Stephanie White and Becky Hammon of the Indiana Fever and Las Vegas Aces, landed fines of $1,000, the source said. Their fines came after they expressed support for Reeve’s viewpoint about physicality and a systemic officiating problem before Game 4 of the semifinal series between Indiana and Las Vegas.

“I think that she made a lot of valid points,” White said Sunday. “A lot of the same kind of conversations are happening. It’s happening from every team, from every franchise, from every coach, from every player. And I think at some point there has to be some accountability.”

She added, “Every part of our league has gotten better, and that part has lagged behind, for whatever reason.”

Hammon was equally on board with the league’s longest-tenured coach.

“From what I heard, (Reeve) did not tell a lie. She said the truth,” she said.
