OT: Knicks - Hurley and Pitino passed, does anyone want the job?

Whenever I log on, for whatever reason my eye immediately goes to "Patino Passed" in the subject line and it makes me pause for a brief moment.

From the ESPN article. Of course the Knicks will try to spin this into a positive, but is it? Is Brown a major step up from Thibodeau? BTW ESPN spelled his name wrong, no?

The New York Knicks are expected to hire two-time NBA Coach of the Year Mike Brown as the franchise's next head coach, sources told ESPN on Wednesday.

Knicks president Leon Rose underwent a thorough process since the firing of Tom Thibdoeau a month ago. The Knicks requested permission for five NBA head coaches and were denied, then interviewed several available coaches and went through multi-round stages with candidates.

Happy to revisit this anytime. Hiring a coach with an offensive mindset and a proven ability of that to lead a team with Jalen Brunson and KAT seems like an obvious upgrade
 
I see this as a stop gap move. If Brown wins he stays if he doesn't they bought a year to keep looking. Time is running out quickly.
Brown will use the roster much better than Tibbs

He would not, as he showed last season and the previous 12 seasons of his career as well. He is literally known for not playing his bench

Why would they buy another year? I thought they were trying to win now while this current roster is intact.

You just parrot the borg. He gave them a shot and they proved to be deficient. If they were good enough, the GM wouldn’t be touting making improvements to the bench. The Knicks took 2 months and got Mike Brown. Fine hire. They will probably win the title now. No Thibs to keep them down.

That's where you're wrong, he gave them a shot for the first time in the Eastern Conference Finals and they changed the series and helped them win a few games.

And this was also my feeling on the day Thibs was hired, so it's not revisionist history or anything. He's a good coach who will win you a lot of games but will never win you a championship. He did his job, gave the Knicks their best multi year run in 30 years, but it was time to move on. And yes, I do expect them to win a title within the next 2 years

Thibs cut short the career of one of the best guards of the last 20 years with overuse. I would never let this guy coach a roster that I had invested $160 million into if I was a GM or owner, because Thibs would eventually get your stars hurt.

It was a MORTAL LOCK that one of the Knicks starters, mostly like KAT, would have a serious injury if they had another season like this from Thibs where every starter is averaging mid 30's mpg. The Knicks were stupid to hire this guy in the first place.

This is not just about one season. An overuse injury can change the trajectory of careers and an entire franchise. The Celtics kicked off a yard sale with Tatum's injury, and the Bucks will suck until about 2040 because Rivers overplayed a slightly built, 34 year old 2 guard, forcing the Bucks into a situation where they had to pay Lillard $113 million not to play basketball. The Bucks salary cap is wrecked for the next 5 years, and I think their next unrestricted draft pick is in 2032. If Lillard had been healthy, he would have been tradable and they could start a rebuild now, or find a different piece to fit with Giannis. Now the only option was a full blown tank, or shoot for mediocrity. It looks like the Bucks are aiming for 41 wins just to fill seats. I have no idea why Rivers has not been fired.

They were forced into a corner. In event that other teams allowed them to talk to some of their coaches, Mike Brown would not even have been a thought. If they dont win this year they will look at it as buying the season looking for a coach.
Let's be honest, the Knicks front office is as screwed up as the Mets and the Jets.

I am not a Knicks fan at all, however, they are at worst the 2nd best team in the East next season. In theory, their path to the finals has never been easier than next season.

I do not like the Knicks and enjoy mocking the franchise every chance I get, but Thibodeau was coaching in the wrong century.

Destroying Derrick Rose’s career through overuse should have been the end of Thibodeau as a coach. Why would anyone let this guy coach another year to see if he could end more careers?

The guy was in charge of the Knicks for five years. Whose career did he wreck then?
