Honestly, kind of. They’re 1 solid bench piece away from being a real threat

If they didn’t have that historic game 1 meltdown, they’d have a game 7 at home with a chance to go to the finals

Brunson/KAT/OG/Mikal is an INSANE core. I’m sure those salaries prevent them from getting too much quality depth, but 1 more solid player and I could see a title team there. They’re mostly all in their primes right now, they NEED to capitalize on this window

You just never know what will happen when you throw a little more pressure on a team. The Knicks Pacers went 6 games and the Pacers won game one on a miracle shot. So at best it takes the Pacers seven games to win that series without that miracle shot. I watched the games I saw what was happening.

I think it may be you that is falling prey to click bait. Pressure during competition is the one thing that cannot be analyzed.

Yes it seems like the Knicks would not have a chance against OKC but in my mind with Robinson back the Knicks first six was at least as good as the Pacers top six. If he had been healthy for half the season it means at least 5-6 more wins and challenging Boston for the two seed.

Brunson is a notch below in my view. Sure, he is tough in getting to the hole and has a solid jumper but the ball dies in his hands and he is constantly targeted on defense.

A notch below, but plenty good enough to win a championship. And yes, KAT will be back and be playing for a coach who knows how to use him on offense. This is not directed at you, but the KAT hate is bizarre

Who are the other alpha guys he's being compared to? Jokic? Yes, he's below Jokic? Gilgeous-Alexander? He's below him too. Other alpha point guards? Haliburton? He's better than Haliburton.
 
This whole thing is hysterical. Not sure how interested the Knicks were in Hurley or Pitino - if I read the tea leaves correctly, they had some interest in Hurley, but he squelched that pretty quick, and while there may have been no interest in Pitino, his comments were spot on and highlighted the problem with that job - that the ONLY successful season for their next HC is an NBA championship.

New York has attempted to interview a number of employed coaches, including Dallas' Jason Kidd, Minnesota's Chris Finch, Houston's Ime Udoka, Chicago's Billy Donovan and Atlanta's Quin Snyder.

Each of those franchises has denied the Knicks' interview requests.

Former Villanova coach Jay Wright also informed the team that he is not interested in leaving retirement to consider the position.

What a total $#!t show for the Knicks. Blueprint for how NOT to make a coaching change. As funny as it is that 5 teams now have said "no you can't talk to our current HC", how can a team do that? I mean if Kidd REALLY wanted the job, could Dallas legally stop him?

The Knicks are not that good. They wouldn’t have made the conference finals if the Celtics had stayed healthy. For that matter, the Pacers wouldn’t have made it if the Cavaliers had stayed healthy. The way Thibodeau overplays his starters, the chances are pretty high that the Knicks would be the team getting gutted by injuries next season. Moving on is the right decision.

I used to think Budenholzer sucked because of his tendency to choke in big games, but he was very good at keeping his key players fresh and using mediocre players like Jae Crowder and Grayson Allen as midseason minutes eaters. Budenholzer arguably should have won more with that Bucks team, but he does have a ring. Roster management is one of the most important things a head coach does in the modern NBA, and Thibodeau is bad at it.

Took Calhoun 14 years after he made a bad team good before he finally made it great. Not apples to apples, but still sometimes it’s not the coach that needs to change.

And sometimes it's been obvious since the day he was hired that the coach needed to change. Championship windows are small and wasting another season of a championship caliber core with a coach who has no chance of winning a title would have been dumb

I'm a huge Knick fan and what they did to Tib's was a disgrace. Their head coaching search was never thought through and now the organization has egg on their face. Coach Hurley or any coach for that matter need to be out of their minds to accept that position.

They are going to have to get lucky with a 1st-time coach. Who must be willing to take notes from Rick Brunson.

Why say that? Any Knick fan should be frustrated. They have no options and they already had a pretty good coach under contract. It’s a very fair narrative as uncreative as it might be. Dolan and co. have made their bed. This is just one in a long line of embarrassing blunders.

No, it's not. They got rid of a bad coach and have their pick of multiple better coaches. This narrative that its a blunder to take their time and actually interview multiple options instead of rushing into a hire is bizarre

Of course they have options. I'm surprised they fired him without having their guy lined up to quickly announce but they have options.

I like Taylor Jenkins.

Thibs frustrates me because the same flaws he had back when he coached the Bulls are still there but it's crazy to call him a bad coach.
