OT: Knicks - Hurley and Pitino passed, does anyone want the job?

I think Tom Thibodeau is available. Seriously though , has it ever happened in sports where a team fired their coach, couldn't find a replacement and rehired him back before the season started?
Like George Steinbrenner? (Billy Martin 1-5, Lou Pinella, etc.?)

Why coach the Knicks when the hottest tickets in NYC will be St John's and Uconn and their elite coaches?

Surprised about the Bulls blocking Donovan. I thought he was on thin ice in Chicago.

I agree with firing Thibodeau but they are running an odd process. I think Budenholzer wouldn’t be a bad coach for the Knicks. He is good at managing a roster through an 82 game season to keep players fresh. He can choke at crunch time but the Knicks are a smart veteran team that can compensate for Budenholzer’s brain glitches.

sigh ok I'll do it. I guarantee I can be well paid for five years and not make the finals.

WFAN was talking about Mike Brown yesterday as a potential frontrunner. I mean, Thibs has got to be viewed as superior to Mike Brown, right?
Probably, but Brown did get Sacramento competitive, which is a feat. And I think there's some truth to the players rebelling on Thibs a bit. It's a pretty clear pattern with him that he can get you to the next level and then wears out his welcome

The rebelling aspect is huge, for sure. I just view Mike Brown as one of those lifer coaches who you bring in to keep things competitive. If I were a Knicks fan, I'd be annoyed if that's the direction. I'm not seeing Thibs was the answer, but man, you have a team that could win now and maybe just need the guy to get you over the hump. And Mike Brown is the answer?

I think Mike Malone is the answer, but yeah if I were a Knicks fan I would not be jumping for joy at the thought of Mike Brown coaching them, even though he is a solid coach.

There are better coaches than Thibs, but damn, there are a lot of coaches that are worse.

Malone is basically a carbon copy of Thibs, it does feel like Malone may end with this job as nobody else does or is being allowed too.

Pitino passed on that job the same way that I passed on being Jessica Alba's boyfriend.

The guy they want is under contract elsewhere. They don't seem to have a problem with news leaking that they're asking around so this may be a tactic to keep people from knowing who their preferred choice is (which could keep the price from being ridiculous).
I heard Jessica isn't over your rejection yet.

Very worrisome for UConn fans. Vegas still has him as a Top 5 favorite I believe. If the Knicks get desperate and invite Hurley in for an interview, well, lets just say $$ has been known to influence people.

Thibs made the Knicks competitive. I thought this hire was about going to the next level.
Yup. Thibs can make a bad team good, but can't make a good team great, and that's the issue. Don't think Brown is the answer either though, I'd be happy with Malone or Bryant

He very much is like Thibs, but I don't think the Knicks have a better choice.

Thibs is the Buck Showalter of NBA coaches. Remember how stupid it was when the Yankees fired Buck Showalter and hired clueless Joe. Would you say Bob Brenly was a better manager then Buck Showalter. It’s not even about who the better coach is so much it’s about who the better fit is for the current situation.

I didn't expect her to take it as badly as she did. For some reason the Knocks aren't quite as upset with Pitino's rejection.

As a life long Knicks fan this is just flat out embarrassing. They were one lucky shot away from being in the finals. And all that talk about OKC being unbeatable and even with the loss last night the Pacers still have a chance.

That tells me that the Knicks were closer to having a title team than most thought…..especially the experts who gave the Pacers or Knicks no chance against OKC.

Then you fire your coach and do not have any plan in place on who you are going to replace him with, that is pure negligence. It has Dolan’s fingerprints all over it and it is too bad that this clueless billionaire owner thinks he has an idea what he is doing. Just another rich man who has no self awareness and thinks he is better than others because he is wealthy.

I really thought we had seen the end of those days. But in steps an owner who in my opinion saw an opportunity to make a decision that would allow him try and change the pathetic narrative around his time as the owner of this iconic franchise.

And as usual he is whiffing right in front of everyone’s eyes. Can’t wait for him to make the statement that he had nothing to do with the decision and that all of these decisions were made by Rose. Just sad….especially if you are a Knicks fan.

The Knicks are fresh off their best season in 25 years and then the coach got fired

Why would anybody (with other options) touch that job?
Very similar things were said when the Warriors fired Mark Jackson.

Granted the talent on the Knicks is a lot further in their respective careers than the talent that was on the 2014 Warriors, and, while most of the general public at that time may not have been aware of it, the ceiling on there their careers far exceeded what appears to be the ceiling on the Lnicks best players careers.

The thing is, eleven years ago many pundits stated that as the team couldn't sniff the playoffs for the decade and a half before he got there and took them to the playoffs three straight years (of the four he was there), they were making a mistake by changing coaches.

Knicks wouldn't have come close to beating OKC lol. Knicks got destroyed by the Pacers, game 1 was a complete choke job. Pacers have far better shooting, ball movement, athleticism and in game coaching than the Knicks. They matchup far better with OKC then the Knicks do. The defense wasn't even good this year.

Knicks never played well in the playoffs even against the Pistons and Celtics they didn't really play well, they only played well in spurts. Only game 6 against the Celtics they played a complete game but that was an anomaly.

You are easily falling to click bait. You can't hire a coach during the finals. I get you are scarred from being a Knicks fan and from Dolan. Sure this next hire better be the guy.

And that is exactly what everyone said about the Pacers chances against OKC. How many experts predicted an OKC sweep or at most a five game series.

You just never know what will happen when you throw a little more pressure on a team. The Knicks Pacers went 6 games and the Pacers won game one on a miracle shot. So at best it takes the Pacers seven games to win that series without that miracle shot. I watched the games I saw what was happening.

I think it may be you that is falling prey to click bait. Pressure during competition is the one thing that cannot be analyzed.

Yes it seems like the Knicks would not have a chance against OKC but in my mind with Robinson back the Knicks first six was at least as good as the Pacers top six. If he had been healthy for half the season it means at least 5-6 more wins and challenging Boston for the two seed.

Sure anything is possible with better coaching, better ball movement and a better bench, the Knicks could be right in it with OKC, Pacers have what the Knicks would've needed to beat OKC. Btw I did have the Pacers beating OKC.

Pacers dominated Cleveland after hitting miracle shots, even when Garland returned. Pacers dominated the Knicks after game 1 it was a gentleman's 6 game series it was never close.
