I'm pretty sure Nike matched - or came close to - UA's offer so I would imagine it was a no brainer for him. It's not like Nike was going to offer him $2M a year and rely on the cache of the brand to make up the rest.
Nike had the right to match any offer - pretty sure KD didn't have a choice in this case unless he could have held out for enough from UA that it was too much Nike's taste.
