I haven't been interested in men's BB, Knick BB, NBA, etc for ages and I can't even remember the last game I went to (though I happily drive the two hours it takes to Hartford for you know who)

But: this kid is absolutely over the top, incredibly entertaining and what a morality story!

sad...

has she followed the NBA before Lin's arrival in the last week
Why is it sad? msf's wife now has a person that she can feel kinship with to give her reason to watch the NBA. I think it's great. Everyone needs a hero, even a sports hero.

How many people watched hockey to see Wayne Gretsky or tennis to see Andre Agassi?

Gretzky has Belorussian ancestry, if I am correct. But no one cared! lol

Gretzky WAS sent to LA to help bolster interest in ice hockey in LA. It did help.

I think it is natural for people to have interest in folks who share their heritage. That I think was 's point. There was a special connection for his wife in this case.

I already understand that. We're in a world that is becoming increasingly globalized nowadays, as is. At a very fast pace. If anything, Lin will be good for further increasing interest in the game of basketball in China/East Asia, just as Yao helped do. Here's proof things have been taken just a bit TOO far.

The "Yellow Mamba"? Really?

I personally don't care for ethnicities really. We all bleed red.

My wife's Asian and she's thrilled
By the way, Asia also includes India, Israel, Iran, eastern Russia, Afghanistan, etc, etc, etc.

Always has to be someone from the Far East when "Asian" gets mentioned.

Except on US census forms. Race is a relatively fluid designation. It can vary between geographic, genetic, and social designations. Your designation only touches on geographic and/or social construction.

On the US Census form, the "Asian" designation is the only options for Indians to check. India itself has many different skin hues/clans. "Asians" obviously are not a race, I am sure you know. Asia is a continent which is home to so many different races/tribes. But to keep calling people from the Far East "Asians" and call everyone else from Asia something else is so wrong.

I think this thread is goofy. The Linsanity story has not been that he is of "Asian" descent; it's been that this kid was cast off by two clubs in December and sat on the Knick bench until they had no-one else to go to. He came in and had put the team on his back for four straight wins while the two team stars are on the bench with injuries. The fact that he's an American-Chinese who went to Harvard only makes it more intriguing.

Jeremy Lin spins and gets the incredible layup to go - 02.10.2012

Lin's Asian descent is only part of his appeal. His is a great story: Harvard grad, can't find a spot in the NBA, Knicks sign him in their desperate need for a point guard, he moves in with his brother and sleeps on the couch, he's an overnight sensation, leads the team to four victories, fans love him. Underdog makes good. How can you beat that?

Wow. You're the only other one who called him a Chinese-American so far! Miracles happen!

That stupid article even acts calls Far Easters "Asians". Pathetic. When are Indians going to be called "Asians", too?
