Or 91S t 691 back to 84.

Depends on traffic. 691W to 84W can get badly backed up on a normal Saturday because it is just one lane connecting the two highways. I don't expect it to handle the detour traffic well.

Update: Construction is ahead of schedule & crews feel that work will be completed by mid-afternoon on Sunday according to the officers in charge of traffic control in front of my business. (which is a quarter mile from the construction site).

As I understand it, they are closing 84 in both directions at exit 30 sometime today.

Of course, as luck would have it, we're heading to Storrs tonight for our annual weekend visit to campus. (I walk around with a clipboard noting anything that needs attention or spiffying up. I send the reports to Sue - I'm sure she reads them.)

I actually think you do this.

I took Wilshire to the 10 to the Fourth Street Exit to skip the 405 interchange, and then took Colorado to the pier.

YES! Glad someone else appreciated that sketch as much as I did!

Beat the Traffic app helps with that.

I-84 Eastbound reopened around 4:30 this afternoon. Amazing!! A new bridge installed less than 48 hours demolishing the existing bridge.

I just sort of winged it.

We got off at exit 32 on 84 because the nine-year old was hungry and then had to drive further in then we wanted because of some debate in the car between her and my wife about the quality of some of the fast food places right off the exit. (One insisted that half of the establishments were dirty and gross while the other one insisted that the other half were dirty and gross.) We ended up at J. Timothy's which both agreed on sight was probably not dirty or gross. From there, I just decided we'd head to New York on whatever backroads Google maps and the car nav decided on. (They disagreed frequently - both were wrong at times.)

I think we took 32, 6, 202, and lord knows what else - went through some towns I'd never heard of. (Terryville, Bantam, etc.) Ended up in Kent which isn't all that far from where we live.

Thanks for all the advice. I'm sure I should have taken some of it.

I was driving through the area last night and my google maps said it was clear so i stayed on 84. Sure enough, got off the off ramp and right back up the on ramp and it was smooth sailing. All the warnings scared the traffic off and the new bridge is open.

This is a construction companies nightmare. The days of the 9 month construction projects may be over.

You had to drive by some decent restaurants to get to J Timothy's from Exit 32.

I'm sure.

I know nothing about the area and had no idea that J. Timothy's was even there. I had heard of it before, so that was enough.

Since you heard about their wings here did you try them?

It still took over 9 months and will continue for another few at least. You just didn't notice the bridge being built off to the side.

Steel still needs to be fabricated and concrete still needs to be cured. If anything this cost more than conventional construction, but in this instance it was decided it was worth it. Not every bridge can be rebuilt this way, there were a lot of factors that made this location favorable to this approach.
