OT: Have we had a Female-in-the-song-title thread?

The tune of this song is very old. There was a legend that if you heard a girl singing it, you'd have good luck. The Irish lyrics are probably around 300 years old, the English only 200.

 

Good song , not well known to me. Interestingly the English name Jane, which has been trending in this thread, is the equivalent of the Irish Gaelic name Sinead . It means God is gracious. English speakers generally find that Irish names are difficult to pronounce. This one is shin aid .
 
I think most high schools probably had their own version of Abigail Beecher - mine certainly did

AKA Freddy "Boom Boom" Cannon. Had quite a few hits back then.

300 years ago , if an Irish girl had a cow to milk, she was damn lucky herself. And probably happy enough to sing about it. ;)

Ha, yeah those Irish names are a trip. Saoirse. Siobhan. The lead singer from the band Crooked Still is Aiofe O'Donovan.
