About once month, I peruse Mike Flynn's twitter page to see what he's irked about. To my surprise, he's got a rumor re Jen Rizzotti on campus at GW.

Really almost lateral. Needs to get to a bigger place.

GW is definitely a step up -- a consistent NCAA-tournament program in a MUCH better conference. And considering Hartford's middling results of late, it's probably as much as Rizzotti can aspire to.

Hartford is a very small school in the middle of a dead zone for local HS D1 talent with not a whole lot to recommend itself to a wider segment of potential recruits. GW would be a huge step up and a place where expectations and resources to meet them are much greater. This would be a very interesting hire and a very interesting move for Jen outside her comfort zone. With growing children it is probably a lot easier to contemplate than it was five years ago.

Interesting. If she does move on, GW would have no trouble scheduling a game against UConn. That's something that should work in her favor.

Definitely not even close to lateral. A few years ago, I thought she might be able to jump all the way to a power conference - but Hartford's relative mediocrity the last few years made that impossible.

In any event, going from the weak AE to the relatively strong A10 is a big step up.

Following up on the above, Sagarin ranks the A10 as the 9th best conference, based on this year's results, while AE ranks 22nd.

I was wondering where this vacant position stood after Jonathan Tspsis went to Wisconsin. Agree with what most of you said, this would be a good move for Jen Rizzotti to the A10. Although Jonquel Jones and GS Lauren Chase are graduating, the cupboard looks pretty good: 4 of the leading scorers return, with Caira Washington (13.2 ppg), Hannah Schaible (10.4), Brianna Cummings (8.8)and Kelli Prange (8.0). If this plays out, good luck to Jen and GW!

Report is that GW has reached a deal with someone, so details should be soon.

Hartford's middling results of late

Now that is a kind understatement. As ucM points out, Hartford is in a dead zone... had Jen worked her magic in those first 2-4 years and gotten out.... But she didn't. I hope she gets it and kills it!

And likely to remain in the 8th or 9th position, behind the Power 5, BE and American. Also gets respect from the committee come March - mostly because they are schools that play many of the eastern P5 and other better schools OOC, I think. Not one team playing a lot of them, of course, but across the board - something that most conferences can't claim.

Very good move for Jen. Her children are older now and the move would be easier.

Will miss her in CT but good for her if it happens.

I think the reason people were so quick to jump on your comment is that for many years, people assumed that Jen was the heir apparent to Geno given her experience, early success at Hartford, and her USA basketball experience.

However, the past 5+ years have seen an abrupt turn around for the program and they have gone from a NCAA team who usually won or challenged at the top of their league to a horrible team with a losing record. She won the America East regular season 4 times, the last coming in 2010, and the tourney 5 times, the last coming in 2011.

Since then she's gone 17-15 (2011), 19-13, 21-12, 13-18, 16-17, 11-19. You could almost say she's driven the program into the ground in the past 3 years and I'm not sure there's any improvement on the horizon. I'm not sure what happened to her teams, but they have been just terrible lately. Maybe GW will allow for a fresh start.

I am of the opinion that Jen would be at the lower end of choices to replace Geno were he to retire right now. There are at least 6-7 people I'd rather see ahead of her, not including a whole host of coaches currently at mid major type programs.

Well - Jen's record at Hartford is 289-179 overall and 168-80 in conference. Prior to her arrival their record was 198-353, and 70-134 in the America East. Her immediate predecessor had compile a record of 76-114 and 47-69 over 7 seasons and the team had never finished higher than 4th in conference. That Jen was able to get a very weak team into post season play in 8 of 15 seasons with 6 NCAA bids and three NCAA wins is pretty impressive. This last year was her first really weak year, the previous two years were more a reflection of the rise of Albany than Hartford collapsing.

I totally hear you but I fail to see how records of 13-18 and 16-17 in 13/14 and 14/15 has anything to do with the rise of Albany. Did UHart play Albany 10 times each season? ;)
