OT: Duke in the Big East

The pure awesome that is Ryan Kelly was sidelined with an injury, so tonight was understandable.

Eight losses....minimum.

They are a bright, shiny lie.
You've been on this for a couple of months. I'm always partial to trashing on Duke, especially when they are as unathletic around the perimeter. But damn, if you weren't right...

If you look at Lehigh's losses, none of them were by double digits and the three out of conference losses were to St John's(5 points) Michigan St (9 points) and Iowa St (9 points).

.......and Why would we want Duke in the Big East? Have you ever seen their football team? Are you kidding me? Hell, Ansonia could kick their ass. Wait a minute, there we go, let's add Ansonia as a football only team to the Big East. For those of you out there, not familiar with the Chargers of Ansonia, you should be.

This is just another cumulative example of why Dook is so damn easy to despise: they get handed a route to the FF every year that is substantially better than their true national ranking, and in all but a few years they prove that beyond all doubt by losing well before their seeding suggests they should.

From 1986-2001, Duke played way above their seed-expected performance. It was uncanny how many they appeared in the Final Four.

And then, for some reason, they stopped getting real athletes, and from 2002-2012 they have been terrible against their seeding. They were #1 seeds in 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2010, 2011 #2 seed in 2008, 2009, 2012 #3 seed in 2003, #6 seed 2007

From 1 seeds: 1 Championship, 1 Final Four, 4 S16,
From 2 seed: 1 second round loss, 1 S16, 1 first round loss
From 3 seed: 1 S16
From 6 seed: loss to 11 seed VCU

That's 1 time they were over their seed performance. 2 times they met it (although technically, due to average, a little over it).
And 8 times they underperformed.

Pretty terrible, really.

I don't think Fishy is actually suggesting Duke be invited to the Big East- not that they'd accept such an invitation anyway. He's simply making a comparison between Duke the ACC team and a hypothetical Duke the Big East team.

Their fault or the NCAA not looking past the name on their shirt? The tournament is a defact BCS tournament for basketball with mid-major teams grudgingly admitted.

I see a number of teams that got screwed by the seeding process. The analysts were raving about the large number of upsets yesterday. Well part of it is due to how teams were seeded poorly.

Murray State was ranked #12 in both polls, that's a 4 seed no? Why are they a 6 seed? An unranked Temple gets a #5 seed? A top 20 Creighton team seeded #8? Why the committee thinks they are smarter than everybody else elludes me. Where is the outcry from ESPN?

The tournament needs to figure out a better system that includes mid-major programs fairly. Last night I watched two #15 seeds and a #14 seed win. It was fun to watch but you have to ask yourself was that really a fluke? Remember the last two Final Fours have included mid-majors(Butler & VCU); same for the last two finals(Butler).

That little charge half circle below the basket has doomed them.
They did not get the calls they usually get a home, that's for sure. I give the stripes credit, they did not see the name on the shirt last night.

They did make that one call against the Lehigh big man that he was about to flip out over. But other than that, I thought it was a decent job of refereeing.

Bingo Drunkdude..........funny because my wife who only watches ocassionally but obviously hears me (lol) during the years, was watching and getting into rooting for the Lehigh underdogs herself and then the announcer said "they will be in the double bonus now the rest of the way.." and she said tome "I never heard them say the other team would be in the double bonus the rest of the way vs a Duke team did I?"....I just laughed and found that so evident of everything we talk about....she's not even a hoops lover and gets it........

The block call by Burr when Plumlee slid late int he game was evidence that K wasn't getting his usual game calls....they are ordinary when they can't shoot straught and the refs are equal minded!!....good call on this one friar fan
