Diana Nyad at age 64 is within 2 miles of Key West swimming approximately 112 miles to complete a vision she has had for over 35 years.

Diana Nyad makes landfall at Smather's Beach in Key West or if you prefer The Conch Republic. She walked in and collapsed into her team members arms. Unbelievably awesome. CNN with coverage.

You go, girl! Inspiration for us aging actives.

Not surprising for a she. Most long-distance swimming records are held by women. From 5 to 35 kilometers, 6 of the 7 U.S. records belong to the distaff side, a couple by significant margins.

(Not certain how recent this document is, since the newest record is in 2008. But, being on the usaswimming site, at least I trust it's veracity.)

This girl was raised by a couple of salmon. She was born to swim.

I know she was never an Olympian yet I have heard of her and not because of her attempts to do this swim. Was she an Olympic commentator through the years?

She has done various feats of long distance open water swimming since the early 70s. She, also, hosted an NPR show on travel for a number of years called "The Saavy Traveler."
