Agreed. I think to a person, the BY'ers who were over there in 2014 for the FIBA WC's got to meet so many great locals. The food there was amazing, but the people were equally wonderful. Hope they are all safe...

They in theory have a secular democracy but Erdogan was trying to consolidate power and had strong religious inclinations. It appears that whatever is happening is fairly bloodless at this point - there is a history of military coups whenever the country appears to be heading too far in a nay direction.

I have heard from many Turkish friends including those who were at the games with us and they are all safe. Martial Law was declared so they are indoors. They don't know who will come out on top, but expect to know by tomorrow.

Contrary to reports on CNN, they have internet access as well as Facebook. Don't know about Twitter, but suspect they still have that also.

Indeed, the Turks were very friendly and hospitable. I just sent Daphne a message to verify that she and her sister are ok. Turkey has had 3 major bombings this year and now a coup.
