OT: Cooley Suspended from Georgetown

Providence would still take him back in a minute.
I live in Rhode Island. There might be three PC fans in the whole state who would have taken him back, and that’s before the water bottle incident. TFG is beyond dead to them.

I remember playing at Crestbrook Gofl Course in Watertown, CT. I think it is the 6th hole now, but it used to be part of the back nine before they switched. It's a par 5 with a little creek in the middle and a cluster of woods to the right. My friend hit a ball down there and there people up on the green so I went into the cluster of trees to look for balls. I found 4 broken clubs, including one partly wrapped around a tree. I would loved to have known the story behind that.
Buddy who’s not a good golfer got frustrated after a bad tee shot and flung his driver.

Looking for his tee shot and couldn’t find it. guy in our group yells out….go to your driver and come back 20 yards. Classic line

The article said Cooley knows the family.

I'll say this again, if the kid or his mom weren't hurt what exactly is the lawsuit? You have to show some kind of loss or pain and suffering. Assault? You have to show it was intentional. Highly doubt Cooley was trying to hit the kid with the bottle because he wanted to hurt him.

It's a bad look and Cooley deserves to be suspended and or fined. But sued? For what? For being a hot head?
For assault you only have to show the act was intentional, not the result

Reckless endangerment?
Kid cowers when he sees a water bottle.
Kid is now afraid to leave the house.
Mother has to hire staff to stay with the kid when she's not home.
BUT, since they were in the second row, they know somebody who knows somebody, so this will end with no trauma and the woman will get two tickets to every home game for the next two seasons.............
Why should the mother be punished? She didn’t do anything wrong!,

Makes little sense to punish the fan for Cooley's action.

Sure, why not? My 2 sons can handle that. I throw plenty of stuff at them. Baseballs, footballs, tennis balls.... 😀

I mean the footballs that you throw at your sons, are they full? I mean you are a Patriots and Brady fan right? 😉

Someone will make money off of this because it will never get to court (no pun) and be settled (quietly) and made to go away. And coach and Georgetown (heaven forbid) have deep pockets and insurance. That's how the system works. PR rules here, not legal arguments.

Much more than that I think.

Is the mother actually suing? I brought it up as a hypothetical. Like some have pointed out, the mother could just claim emotional distress or PTSD from the incident. You get the right/wrong judge depending on the way you look at it, and who knows what will happen.

I worked with a guy who rear-ended a SUV or minivan. The police even estimated in their report that he was going 3-5 mph in his rabbit when he hit them. The guy and his wife sued, claiming the accident left him impotent and he settled for just under 4 million dollars.

What could the kid have possibly said to piss off Ed so much? jk
When I was coaching, Coach pitch Little League 1 got away from me and I hit a kid. Not a huge deal. It's not like I was throwing very hard. He took his base and was content. Fast forward a few innings when the kid was up again and I'm thinking to myself "just don't hit him again", so of course I did. After the game, his dad came up to me and said "Did my son do anything in particular to offend you?" I said "Did you see the way he was staring me down. He keeps that up I'll plunk him again!"

Cooley is reported as saying he has known the boy's family for years and considers them as his own family, so I would say it's highly unlikely there will be a lawsuit.

The most amazing part of this story is it gives Georgetown a way out to get rid of Cooley with no buyout. The coach is a bust. But instead they are sticking with him.

I think we filled their building last year. We're the team all of DC wants to see (at least all NCAAM fans in greater DC)

Not enough has been said about the bravery of the Georgetown AD for suspending Cooley for a huge game against the powerhouse program of Coppin State.
Bravery? The whole bar was chanting “fire Cooley!!!” Bro was given a victory lap with high fives.

Its a little early to call him a bust

And now y confirm why insurance prices are so expensive

If Georgetown tried to do that Cooley's first call would be to Kevin Ollie's attorney. Lol.

I don't think throwing an empty water bottle is going to be looked at as enough of a reason to cancel a many millions of dollars contract.

"Georgetown University strongly opposes all violence against children. Any act of violence against children, whether intended or not is unacceptable behavior for our coaches. We need Georgetown University games to be safe for children of all ages, colors, and creeds. We no longer feel that Coach Cooley can provide that safe and nurturing environment."

Has the emptiness of the bottle been verified? That peg looked like it has some giddyup on it that an empty wouldn't have.
Just sayin.😜

And I think this is a lost point. Cooley clearly gave into his anger and acted irrationally. I don't think the water level was a calculation he made when throwing it. I hate the excuse that it was an empty bottle.
