Going to have to disagree with you chief. Brave can be taking a stance and embracing something that many other people are openly against. How would you describe Magic Johnson inviting the entire world into his life when he announced he had HIV?

Second of all, this young woman faces ridicule every single day just by virtue of genetics. Heck, there's evidence of it in this thread. And this has likely been the case her entire life. Sure, she doesn't put herself in physical danger (although, that might have just been the case of the people who have bullied her in the past not taking it that far..) but she's pretty damn tough. In recent years we've seen how some kids have reacted to a lot less bullying than Griner's received. (Between suicides and shooting sprees.)

But she's not, this is a young woman who is clearly comfortable in her own skin, with essentially the entire country telling her she shouldn't be.

and youve problably spent a lot of time in the bible belt. MOST of the open discrimination the gay community receives is from right wing nuts!
 
No, I spend most of the time in the North East as well. I just know the reality.

And I agree, it is mostly from the Bible Belt. Like around Texas...where she's from.

No. You missed the point where the gay activists want her to feel uncomfortable in her skin because of other people. What they would like is a suicidal head case. A Harvey Milk stereotype. Not someone well adjusted. Then again I have a theory on all political activists of every stripe and mental illness.

And STDs. People don't brag about their STD's. Unless you are en ex-Laker like Magic or Kareem. In LA its assumed everyone has STDs.

I get the sense you're trying to make a legitimate point here but I'm not seeing it. I don't see the connection between steroid use, infidelity, the commission of a crime, masturbation, or a predilection for Japanese food and being gay. If you do I'm not sure what you could possibly have to say on the topic that's worth hearing.

And, of course, the one thing they don't have to keep to themselves is their relationship with their partner, as long as it's a woman.

They don't have to do that either. I don't care if the entire Yankees Bullpen screws each other. We know they do. I've told them to go F'themsleves before. More than once. Just as long as its not the Red Sox bullpen.

Ah, so it's the "gay activists" that have created discomfort around high profile athletes coming out. If it wasn't for those pesky gay activists there'd be no problem. That makes perfect sense. Like black people perpetuating racism being the only reason racism still exists.

Incidentally, your comments about Harvey Milk are nonsensical. He was murdered by a suicidal headcase. Not sure where you got the idea that he was one himself. You should stop hanging out in these spots in LA where people brag about STDs. Your brain seems a little addled.

Sure, because Magic talking about did nothing for people who had AIDs or would get it. You should keep you homophobic, religious loving views to the Cesspool. You know, where you told a gay member they had the right to marry whoever they wanted, as long as they were the opposite sex.

I support Civil Unions and the rights of gay people in the workplace and housing. In your world that makes me a homophobe unless I support the "what ever's trendy" gay party line. Are you pushing reparations yet?

You need to call people like me who oppose gay marriage homophobes. Your very identity and self-worth is built on believing only brave people come out of the closet. It's excuse making for all those who never came out of the closet until this day. The implication as to why they never came out is bitter fruit to swallow.

I'm happy Griner came out in a non-political way and says she was accepted at Baylor. She wasn't freaking pathetic about it.

Some might want to think of the implications of Griner playing for Phoenix which passed a DOMA amendment in 2008 "ONLY A UNION OF ONE MAN AND ONE WOMAN SHALL BE VALID OR RECOGNIZED AS A MARRIAGE IN THIS STATE"

Did Griner refuse to go work for these "Homophobes"? Will she call her fans "Homophobes"? Or will she follow a middle path to further legal acceptance of gay unions by example? Will those supporting her on that middlepath be classified as "Homophobes" here in CT? Likely so.

Former Middle Tennessee kicker was openly gay with teammates, coaches

For the past couple weeks, gay players in college football has become an interesting topic. There’s been a lot of speculation about how a team might treat a gay player on the field or in the locker room.

Middle Tennessee already knows that answer. From 2008-11, it had the first openly gay college football player on its roster, but never went public about it.

Alan Gendreauwas out in high school and when he joined Middle Tennessee as a freshman in 2008, he had no problem sharing his sexual orientation with teammates and friends.

And no one treated him differently.

My whole thing in this is just to help anybody who is struggling with coming out,” Gendreau told the New York Times “I want people to know that I didn’t have a problem with it, and they shouldn’t, either.”'

Gendreau, whose story was originally chronicled by Outsports.com was a four-year starter for the Blue Raiders. He was the all-time leading scorer in Sun Belt Conference history with 295 points and he owns the record for the second-longest field goal in conference history at 55 yards.
 
Gotta say, RS999X is making some really nonsensical arguments in this thread.

Just because you're not for gay marriage and obviously have some weird stick in your craw about gay individuals and groups (WTF were you trying to say about gay groups being Griner's real problem???) doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to step back and admit that it's still courageous for any athlete to come out of the closet.

I know this may be a little wrong, but if this thread were about Caroline Doty and Meghan Gardler coming out ... well you know where I'm going on this one.
