Those wonderful memories of 1970 with a Farfisa Transistor Organ learning Light My Fire by ear. What would bong parties be without The Doors? Or Coppola's "Apocalypse Now" without the Doors psychedelic opening number The End? That whole Eddie and the Cruisers thing without Jim Morrison?

This the end my friend.....when the music over turn out the lights...turn out the lights... Turn out the lights.....Time for the Soft Parade.....

Ray always seemed to be the anchor of the Doors, and his keyboard had a wild distinctive sound that lit up a certain part of the 60s for me. Got to visit Morrison's grave in Paris two years ago which seems very incongruous with his life, and I don't know between his place and Piaf's who had the biggest crowd, but there were a few more young women at Morrison's getting emotional over his bust.

You know your Doors well!

I actually got to see The Doors at the Bushnell. I know that probably sounds weird...

I loved the Doors too but I don't want my grandkids to know that. I think Jim Morrison's dad was a high-ranking officer in the Navy.

To me, the Doors and Jefferson Airplane were the prime musical exemplars of the nearly complete break that occurred between the prior conservative culture and the new age '60s. Not just the generation gap but the fundamental societal disconnect that was unique to that era.

I'm sure that more than a few artists from that period wish their greatest contributions weren't made so long ago. I don't know if Ray felt that way in his later years; musicians generally love to keep creating and often grow tired of early material. OTOH, how many of us can say we helped write the soundtrack of an age? I hope he took some pride in that.
