Just not true. I have crossed the border extensively into Montreal and into Toronto. You need a Passport or one of the new enhanced Drivers licenses. Not so much with the Canadians ... but they have gotten tougher. The American side is the issue.
But there was a time, and June 2009 sounds roughly correct, when you needed a passport if flying but could drive without one. Then they changed the rules and you need a passport no matter how you go.

No, you needed a passport long before 2009. Nothing has changed since shortly after 2011. Passports are required but they will still let you through with a driver's license with discretion. Or not.

Even just as a school. But since they're a state flagship school, I will include athletics.

UConn was left out of some 2010 global rankings but UMass was included?

UMass is now #46 in the world. Was ranked ahead of Duke 2 years ago. I know you say rankings are flawed. Still used as a powerful marketing tool.

Yeah, but, I don't think UMass is coming anywhere near UB academically. Not until Mass. invests in it.

UMass should pull the D-1 plug now. It ain't happening for them.

They would draw MUCH better in Amherst. The problem is they are playing in Foxboro.

That is a significant problem, but solving that problem isn't going to turn UMass into a legit football program, and it also isn't bring their academic funding from the state legislature in Boston to the level that UConn gets from Hartford. It's nice (and/or weird) that you like imagining UMass will become a power but they have a lot more hurdles in their way than UConn had / has going forward.
