I honestly felt that BB was going to kill it a UNC. But that feeling flipped like a switch this week. Now I'm in the camp that believes he could be suffering from early-stage dementia and is in a potential elder-care abuse situation. The clues are all there. This can happen to old guys with money. In any event, it's more than an old man-golddigger situation to me.

I would guess that UNC has some buyers regret. From what I have heard…recruiting has been about the same as Mack Brown…meanwhile he hasn’t been fan friendly. And…of course the odd relationship with a woman nearly 50 years his junior.

Maybe he will deliver on the field…but so far, it’t been a trainwreck.

(responding to OP)

maybe... points def taken.

but BB's mental state and personal woes caused by it, is not NC's problem necessarily (as long as it doesn't translate to irrational/poor football coaching, and as long as the personal stuff is not illegal stuff that can doom UNC if they don't act).

If they win the ACC and get to the playoff, NC will probably be just fine with his caretaker roaming the sidelines, and the associated mahomes-esque WAG antics.
The PR headaches may be worth it, for them (more booster $$, even greater Jordan/Nike interest & investment, bargaining chips to move to B1G/SEC, etc.)

Bill Belichick doesn’t GAF. He’s experienced unprecedented success by not-caring what other think. He’s a multi-million dollar operatation, all on his own.

What’s that, he’s dating a 24 year old? Time to make her VP of the entire operation!

When he was at the top of his game, there wasn't a chance in hell that someone's significant other could have gotten away with interrupting a practice, yet he allowed his to do just that

At a minimum he is nowhere near as invested in the success of this football team as he had been with any team that he coached in the past.

I hope my dementia begins with a hot 24yo.

He may be able to pull it off with strong assistants. Maybe he can build a tower and coach from above.

Remember:
Bill Belichick's record as an NFL head coach without Tom Brady is 83-101, including his time with the Cleveland Browns. This includes a 47-57 record with the Patriots when Brady wasn't the starting quarterback and a 29-38 record since Brady left the Patriots.

I have wondered about his…do most Patriot fans give all the credit to Brady…Belichick or both?

After seeing Brady win in TB…and Belichick being average without him…I tend to think it was mostly Brady. I used to think it was both. But…I do think he was a very good head coach..just maybe not as good as the results he delivered.

I think mediocre GM and very good coach but not great; he needed Brady and stout defensive pieces for excellent results. Let's not kid ourselves, Tom Brady was the single most important player of the past 30 years of the NFL. I say this as a lifelong Pats fan.

Nah I'll say great coach. Arguably greatest defensive coordinator of all time

Great defensive coordinator yes, but not so much as head coach. Hard to argue because of his .451 head coach winning percentage before and after having the most important player ever at the most important position.

Great head coach, it's silly to think otherwise. It's bad faith to cite only the .451 winning percentage when the team he took over was 3-13. To have that team winning a playoff game 4 seasons later is a tremendous turnaround for a 1st-time coach. He got sacked the next year as the franchise was in chaos after they announced they were leaving for Baltimore. They didn't win another playoff game for decades. And Brady wasn't really Brady for those first 3 rings. He was still a game manager.

He’s played tackle football since pee-wee league, sad to say but he did get clunked a few times.

UNC has banned her from the FB facility.

Does he even make it to the season?

He won 8 Super Bowls, 6 as head coach and 2 as defensive coordinator while coaching who is considered the best offensive player ever in Brady and who is considered the best defensive player ever in LT.

It's a lot like Phil Jackson, his success is unbelievable but he coached who is considered the greatest player ever in Jordan and then he coached Kobe and Shaq.

They're the most successful coaches ever but is Phil Jackson really that much better of a coach than say Larry Brown? Is Bill Belichick really that much better of a coach than say Dick Vermeil?

Whether she is officially barred or not, the fact the multiple people told Pablo Torre she was indicates a bunch of folks inside UNC working against her. That seems unsustainable.

What's the problem? An old man has a young girlfriend. If she dies, she dies. :p

I think Belichick will go down as one of the greatest GMs of all time. Why? He was able to compete (and win) year in and year out in the salary cap era when it is almost impossible to maintain consistency. He placed certain monetary values on positions and he stuck to his guns and he didn't overspend any given year in order to win over the long term. The way he and Dante Scarnecchia developed and built OLs over the years really stands out.

I think Brady and Gronk going to Tampa and winning a Super Bowl and now being in all kinds of commercials and shows has broken Bill. It's like he's trying to be a spring chicken now.

One counterpoint to that is that Brady deferred a ton of money so the Pats could spend it on other players. There are estimates of 60-100 million dollars. Over 20 years, that's say 4 million a year. I think much of this occurred in the last half of his tenure so maybe more like 6 million for many of those years. Kinda makes the GM's job much easier.

Yes, Brady did help with his contract deferrals, but I think the Pats had won 3 Super Bowls and been to 5 Super Bowls before Brady started restructuring his contract which I think started in 2013 after he had been with the Pats for 13 years. And, it seems most top QBs now restructure their contracts to allow their teams to be competitive.

Someone should tell you it already has, then when you say "I don't remember being with a hot 24 year old" they can reply "it must be your dementia that's keeping you from remembering".

Everybody wins.
Except me with the 24yo.

I always thought it was he just didn't take as much and less that it was deferred. Maybe im wrong

Regardless. If Brady was making his full nfl worth he wouldn't have had as many titles
