He's been a winner everywhere he has coached. He wont have any problem building Miss St into a tournament caliber team.

Northern Arizona, Pitt, UCLA were all successful under Howland. He's always recruited well for the schools he was at. Doubt he has lost his contacts and such from all over the country.

He went to three final fours, was a great recruiter, and can call on Kevin Love and Russell Westbrook as former players who he put in the league. Yes both were one and done blah, blah, blah. Recruits could care less (see Calipari, John) There's always a ton of talent in the south. I think he'll do just fine.

From an Adidas school to an Adidas school to an Adidas school. Don't be surprised when he starts picking up talent from the Adidas AAU circuit. Howland is a shady dude.
He's a perfect fit in the SEC.

The biggest problem with Ben Howland seems to be that nobody likes him. His exit in Los Angeles wasn't the most gracious, so it'll be interesting to see if he continues hauling good classes with everybody recruiting against him rushing to pull out that article from a couple years ago.

Notice how when guys like Calipari, Howland, and Pearl, who have all had shady histories at prior schools and had multiple accounts of violations or being fired from said university, are brought up, most people trash them or put them down. Then, when they magically get hired at an SEC school, the fans are all "great hire!" or simply accepting of his past with no questions asked. The SEC only cares about $$$ and winning, no one including the administrations or fans gives a s*** how that happens, its almost like an unspoken rule that the SEC will cheat, just dont get caught.

It's kind of a weird fit, but he's a good coach and he can hire assistant coaches with the connections he needs.

He would have seemed to have been a natural fit at Arizona State, but it seems they already knew where they were going when they fired Sendek.

The SEC deserves him and he deserves the SEC. The Squid, The Pearl and The Howler can now have strategy sessions and secret AAU open houses.

Hence the "blah, blah, blah"... Recruits don't care. Howland can go after a top guard and say, "I'd like to use you the way I used Russell Westbrook. You know I was his coach, right?" Signed, sealed, delivered...

Westbrook played 2 years and was a 3 star recruit, not sure why ya'll are grouping him in the "1 and done, elite recruit" category.

Couldn't remember if he was one or two years. Regardless, Howland can "claim" him. Given Westbrook's ridiculous run this year, that's a nice little Ace to throw at a guard recruit.
