I think it's because Mayfield is a bit short for a starting NFL qb?

Yup. Wilson and Brees are exceptions in modern football; most QBs under 6’2 don’t seem to last very long these days. OL are getting ridiculously tall now.

Or at least size needs to be considered when you’re looking for a franchise QB (and who isn’t?).
