With Army / Navy game on Saturday, time to see what each side has for uniforms.

Navy paying homage to Old Ironsides

honestly I hate these “special” uniforms. Not just for Army-Navy though they have been particularly awful in recent years. A few years ago Navy looked more like a bunch of Little Lord Fauntleroys than future Naval officers! Army just looked dumb in camo. Just wear what you wore all season. It was good enough for Roger Staubach and Joe Bellino, and Doc Blanchard and Glen Davis and Pete Dawkins. Should be good enough for the current group.

The single time I saw a “special” uniform work well was the year Dan Devine had Notre Dame change into green jerseys between warm ups and the intro against USC. But that was pretty unique. John Robinson is reputed to have said “ we’re f#*%ed” when he saw them. And it wasn’t all over the news 2 weeks before the game or designed by Nike to sell more merch!

I'll be rooting for Navy for 2 reasons:
1) I wanted to attend the Naval Academy when I was younger.
2) I want Navy to beat the bejesus out of Army so that they'll be in worse shape when they play us in the Fenway Bowl...but who am I kidding, this is Army, they're just built differently.
3) [I can count, this is really in keeping with item 1] I really like Navy's helmets, and they've had some great ones over the years like ships of the fleet in 2015 and Jolly Rogers in 2024.

Four of my years in the Navy were spent chasing wires on Jolly Rogers aircraft. Both Tomcats and SuperHornets. Loved those uniforms.

Oh, yeah, you said wires, not cables.

Well, -14 did have cables connecting the throttle to the engines. And I had to do the electrical rigging on top of th3 mehanical rigging. Super Hornet was all fly by wire.

My first supervisor put this on his Facebook page a few days ago. We lived on top of -14 for flight controls, wing sweep and fuel systems.
