OT: Army recruiting violations?

I spent a couple of years hanging around an ACC basketball program that spent most of both years in the AP Top 15.

It's better if people just don't know what really goes on because we'd suffocate buried under the moralistic bulls**t we'd read about it.

Our service academies should get a party bus with police escorts every Saturday, paid for by all other colleges. These kids are signing up for something much more significant than most other college athletes are.

My neighbor's kid had his first beer while being recruited by Navy. My suggestion was maybe they needed to toss in a WAC or two.

Huh? The story might be cute but for the cash from boosters part. How is that a minor violation? This system is so corrupt to the core that it really defies rational belief.

The start of the military-industrial complex. Just booze, broads, and some bling or cash... then it gets serious.

I think this is one of the unintended consequences of the P5 and concentration of money and power with the preordained "haves" and the rest of the "have nots". Every school frozen out of the ridiculous money flows will be looking to its donor base to find a way t say relevant and compete. The rest of the schools on the outside should create their own rules - money, booze and babes allowed.

Army self reports, Navy and Air Force are too smart to do that.

I know the author was going for the Pulitzer Prize for journalism, but it looks to me like we're basically talking about one semi-rowdy bus trip with no real evidence of anything particularly galling. Even the lurid description of 'cash going over the bar and beer coming back' sounds a lot like how I buy beer. (Granted, underaged kids should not be buying beer at bowling alleys, but as an underaged college student, I bought beer at bowling alleys.)

Am I missing something or have we uncovered evidence of college kids acting like college kids?

If history is any indicator Army will lose bowl eligibility / scholarships / etc. and North Carolina will get slap on the wrist.

It's already been settled.

No penalties, just a warning.

That's how minor the whole thing is - I'm sure the Colorado Springs newspaper was trying to do some damage on behalf of the home town service academy, but it seemed to have failed.

Just curious. Isn't everybody in West Point on scholarship? So Army could recruit 400 guys who
played high school football and claim a lot of walks ons. How do you punish Army?

That is their advantage. Unfortunately, that translates into a few wins over VMI & Holy Cross. Maybe Ball State. But Yale beat them.

Not a single cadet pays tuition at West Point. They pay with their service in the Army.

In other news, while not a violation, it's good to be Nick Saban.

Yeah what an advantage. Here's the pitch: "Come to Army to play football. The only catch is that you must serve for 4 years upon graduation where you may be killed in combat." I'm sure all of the 3 star kids and up are knocking down the door trying to get in.

Unless something changed in the past 25-30 years, active duty service obligation for USMA, or USNA graduate obtaining officer appointment is 5 years, not 4.
