I am so enjoying this butt kicking. Lets ask that question again. Is ND relevant again? I for one think not. Down 42-7 the commentators are proud of how hard ND is competing???
ND gets more butt kissing from commentators per sport than any other school.

ACC meet SEC where real football is played!! This is not USC or Central Michigan. This is real BCS football at its highest level

Not bad ND. You are playing great against Bama's second string.

.-.
I am an ND football fan. I always have been always will be. I have Fighting Irish 7UP Championship bottle sitting on my desk. But after the sickness of Saturdays loss, I will honestly say, this did not bother me. IMO, until ND can schedule 1-2 SEC powerhouses to play them, they will not be ready for that type of team. The SEC is on a whole other level.

What a shame that ND was in this game when there are other teams much more deserving. Goes to show that rankings sometimes don't mean squat.

what other teams were much more deserving ??

The schadenfraude goes a long way toward soothing Saturday's disappointment. ;)
My schadenfreude is, also, based in Golic's behavior and gross leaps of accusation against everyone at PSU before the facts began to come out. He lost tons of fans in central PA for himself and ESPN.

ND has so much exposure in the media that fans created an aura of exalted status. Anyone who didn't agree that they were the absolute best were labeled "haters". It wasn't the tide that rolled in, it was a tsunami. ND's performance in this game showed the "haters" to be realists. It will be a difficult year for Irish fans.

I, on the other hand, hate all things ND. Last night, Touchdown Jesus wept. I, on the other hand, laughed heartily.

We should have been playing in this game.. A 1 loss Oregon is much better than an undefeated Notre Dame. When you play a cake schedule like they did, it masks your true ability

It wasn't even a competition. Te'O proved just how overrated he is, possibly the most overrated player given all of the awards he received. Kiko Alonso, MLB for Oregon, had identical statistics to Te'O while playing only TWO quarters in all but 2 of our games

Until they have an eight team playoff system, the NCAA National Football Championship will be a farce.

ND played a tougher schedule than Oregon. Sagarin has Oregon's SOS at 38; ND is at 21. BTW, ND beat Stanford and Oregon lost to them.

Transitive property doesn't work in football =).. They played Stanford when Shaw had Nunes starting, who is a D3 QB at best. We played them with Hogan, who is head and shoulders a better QB, AND the refs gave that game to ND. Also, if you look at our opponents and what they went on to do, and you look at ND's, there's no comparison. Not to mention, our starter's only played 2 quarters for all but 2 games this season. The majority of the college football world is saying Oregon should have been in that game

We'll show everyone when the playoff starts

ND played, by far the poorest game of the season. Give a lot of that credit to Alabama smacking them in the mouth early on. The poor call on the muffed punt, the incomplete call on Eiffert's catch didn't help when trying to right the ship early on.

Oregon would have gotten smashed just the same. They are fast, really fast. But Alabama is equally fast, but bigger and stronger. Give Saban a month to prepare for any game and he has a very good track record of winning that game. Until schools like ND, Oregon, USC start playing a big time SEC school during the regular season, their players will be at a disadvantage come bowl time - there is just no comparison. Had Ohio State been bowl eligible, we're not even having this discussion as it is ND and OSU in the finals- which is why I agree that a playoff is needed as they were clearly not the two best teams, but they may have been two of the best four.

As far as Golic goes, I really thought his son was the poorest of all of the ND starting O-Line, and it wasn't even close.

My favorite quote from the game: "People are parachuting into the stadium right now. That's how bad the traffic is."

Good thing for his sake Te'o didn't win the Heisman. Saved him a heap of embarrassment.

It's too bad the game had to actually be played. ND would have done much better if pre-game publicity and fan commentary were to decide the outcome.

ND could have done much better publicity wise if they ended up blocked out of the game by BCS rankings and being able to complain they were excluded instead of the embarrassment of an old fashioned beat down.

The oddest thing that I saw was Te'o wearing #5 and ND's QB also wearing #5. I didn't realize they could do that.

They had a few players that do that. Theo Riddick wears #6 as does another player on defense. I was quite miffed by the names on the jerseys.

You mean it was the QB that was missing all those tackles?

I just never realized that was legal.

I guarantee you Oregon would not have gotten smashed. Their D is too fat and slow to keep up with our offense. It would have been a shootout. Alabama is no where near as fast as Oregon. And it's impossible to play SEC schools in the first 3 games because they refuse to do home-and-homes with us and only want us to go to them, which just shows they are scared. How many times has Saban said this year that the no huddle offense is "bad for the game"? He's scared to play us because he knows he'll lose. Look at what Texas A&M did to them. It'd be two fold that with Oregon.

And had Ohio State not been on sanctions, it would have been a travesty to see them in the championship game. That was the worst undefeated season I've ever seen. I cannot wait until the play-offs start so this mess will be settled.

There is no guarantee that Ohio State would have been in the championship game even if they were eligible. At the end of the season, I heard a few times that OSU wouldnt have been higher than either ND or Bama in the standings... their schedule was pitiful.
