Ot: ACC doomsday scenario

That league is so stupid, and they have no one to blame but themselves. One team is in their champ game because they didn't play any of the other teams, and while they lost to NC State, it was a non conf game. The other team is in because of some 5 way tiebreaker. That league should be disbanded.

I remember when Clemson and Florida State said they would leave the conference if UConn was invited because of our football. Now our football is ranked higher than both of them.
And they really had nowhere to go. The B12 wasn’t a better situation for them at the time. They bluffed everyone. Honestly, I actually thought they might leave for the B12. It was never happening.

I can see their trepidation about having to play us; their worst fear has come to pass.

Of course for the sake of mojo I should point that if the reverse happens, decent chance that ACC gets 2 plus ND.🙁
I thought the p4 is guaranteed at least 1 spot. The conference cant have 0 teams for ACC is impossible. Correct me if I'm wrong

Top 5 highest ranked conference champions get an auto bid. No conference is guaranteed a spot. The next 7 are selected by rankings. The ACC could potentially be completely locked out

Team selection
  • Automatic bids: The five highest-ranked conference champions earn an automatic spot in the playoff.
  • At-large bids: The next seven highest-ranked teams overall receive at-large bids.
  • Selection committee: The selection committee ranks the teams based on various factors like conference championships, strength of schedule, and head-to-head results

That is incorrect. The autobids go to the 5 highest ranked conference champions. Since there are 4 power conference, the implication is that there will be 4 P4 conference champions and 1 G6. But with Duke going to the ACC championship game, if they win and JMU wins the Sun Belt, there is a chance that JMU AND the N Texas/Tulane winner will end up being ranked higher than Duke and there would be 2 G6 getting autobids.

The remaining 7 slots go the 7 highest ranked teams that did not win a conference championship. Depending how that plays out, BYU wins, Texas Tech takes an at large, etc., Miami and ND might not be in the top 7 of non conference champions.

The old bowl system and the BCS were way better than the new college playoffs. Back when we had the traditional conferences it probably would've been fun but this ain't it.

To frustration: "The league has a basketball-first mentality," one administrator said. "And it drives me fricking crazy."
Errr, what?!!? If the league really had a basketball-first mindset, we'd be in it, as we're not, that's some nitwit's take on why they never should've taken Loserville. Meanwhile...
Cal and Boston College, two schools widely critiqued for underfunding their programs, have promised renewed spending.
If only there was a school that has been trying to put money into football and have recent demonstrable success, a school well within the Atlantic Coastal region that has a solid athletics program, specially one who's mascot looks better than the Wolfpack...

The ACC should have the top 2 teams in the CFP rankings in the championship especially since mega conferences have massively unbalanced conference schedules.
Exactly. The American has this same rule for a reason. If the ACC had implemented this, it would be #12 vs #17 and this entire situation would have been avoided.

I am praying for both JMU and Tulane/UNT to make it. Would be a glorious sight lol

Just go to 16 every FBS conference champ gets an autobid then the 6 highest ranked leftovers get an at large. Therefore, the SEC and Big 10 get the majority, all G5 is included and ND gets thrown a bone to stay independent.

There is no sane argument for Duke over JMU. Which isn’t to say it couldn’t happen , but ….

In the current Massey composite ranking, — combining 90+ rankings — JMU is 21 and Duke 43.
