In progress on MSG Varsity MSGHV. Channel 714 on Cablevision. High Def. broadcast. Chong looking good. Broadcast repeated at midnight.

Just finished watching the 3rd quarter on TV. some observations: she will be able to handle Geno cuz her coach is an absolute screamer. She definitely has offensive skills, good size, long arms, great vision, accurate passer, good crossover, dribbles with both hands. Looks to pass more than to shoot. Now defensively, floats off her man continuously, makes no attempt to recover her man when her man has the ball, seems to want the other team to shoot so they can get the ball back, no defensive stance when straight up defending her man, for someone who looks quick, she gets beat off the dribble easily. Plays for a team that seems to have the old Loyola Marymount attitude about defense-- we will just outscore you. Seems humble to a fault, needs to develope a killer mentality on the court.

With all that said, I am sure Geno could cure all her ills. I predict Stewart will drop 30 on the Ossining team with ease.

Their coach makes Geno look mild...:)
I wish fans that bash Geno for yelling could take a look at some high school & AAU games and see some of those coaches. Most coaches don't yell because they're abusive, they do it because they're intense.

Geno is fond of observing that kids don't learn defense in HS (or AAU maybe?) but I hope you are just a tiny bit dramatic about the D she does not have. Sorry, 'cuz this is fresh in my mind, but if she wants to be a Carmello, she best head to the ACC or similar. Do I think that is her orientation, heck no. Seems to be both talented and bright, so 'spect she knows you cannot play one way ball and play for UConn.

Trivia question: Has there ever been a womens' hoops HS Coach who just happened to follow his star player onto the staff of the college she elected to go to (dangling whatever)?

THREAD DRIFT ALERT?

I didn't take anything said in this thread as bashing Geno or the Ossining coach. It's obvious both coaches are only interested in the well being of their players.

Saniya ended up with 39 points.

MSG Varsity does a great job presenting high school sports. Quality HD, good camera work, good announcers, just all around excellent.

Hey, Nan. I have a question. Now I know that boy's H.S. basketball coaches have always been loud, partly an attempt to intimidate the Refs. But as I remember, back in the seventies, Girl's H. S. BB coaches were not allowed to say anything to the Refs. Any complaint brought an immediate technical foul. Does anyone else remember back that far? Anyway, when did that change?

Stewart may very well drop 30 against Ossining's 2 freshman down low, but Ossining will just as easily put 90+. Cicero out in semi finals.

I believe J. Gemelos and probably a bunch of others. I've seen it in the men's game too.

Now, that is something the NCAA could control and stop wasting their time differentiating between a bagel and a bagel with cream cheese - the first is okay under current rules, the second is an illegal gratuity - heard that on ESPN interview of NCAA Pres. today - who are these people, Tennessee fans? :p

I think Nan was just mentioning it due to threads in the past about Geno's loud mouth.

btw Nan, very few posters watch HS/AAU basketball so they have no clue

Yes, DC, you're right. It was a general comment on my part.

It would be very illuminating for people to watch some AAU games. Lots of zone defense because kids don't have a clue how to move their feet, especially laterally, a defensive rebound often results in a long baseball pass up the court that gets picked off half the time and crazy attempts to steal balls causes one defender to be 25' away from the action. That style of play benefits great athletes but they are often clueless on the game's basics. That's one reason there are a handful of really, really successful AAU clubs. It's not necessarily that they get all the best players, it's that they at least try to teach the girls elements of the game.

I think Geno is there to see her competitiveness , to see if she the basic fundamentals , and to see how she responds to coaching....Perhaps even intense coaching. Its obvious she can score. Geno has said many times that kids learn very little about playing defense in AAU. So its a fair assumption Saniya has plenty to learn about playing defense..........And UCONN is the right place to learn it.

I am sure Morgan Tuck will feel like Geno hates her due to the lack of "enthusiasm" compared to what was showed by coach Smith at Bolingbrook. His sideline antics are not to my liking but he is one hell of a coach.

Yo ROCKY - this was, of course, intended to help out with your "thread drift alert"......;)
