The answer under the current rules is no. But I am already on record as doubting a court would side with the NCAA if someone like Liam who would still be eligible had he stayed in school was barred from coming back. For the life of me I can't think of a valid justification why a young enough European or G League pro could come back but not an NBA pro.

No. The only guys close that actually retained their eligibility, or at least forced the NCAA to allow it, never signed a deal in the NBA, let alone played. McNeeley did both. He's done

And even if he could - why would he ? Nevermind that his NBA team would never allow it. He's under contract. Those typically have some meaning.

By all means, explain to us how the NBA has a guy under contract is going to allow them to go play for a college program. That's also a legal question mr. businesslawyer. Now, a guy in Booknight's situation, where he's no longer under contract, maybe.

I mean, where does it end ? How about Sanogo ? His time in the NBA looks to be waning. Theoretically, he's still got a year of eligibility. How about Andre Jackson if Milwaukee decides he's not in their future ? Those aren't legal questions, per se, assuming your take on if McNeeley could come back. It's just making a mockery of the entire college basketball world.

This is a good post because I have no idea whether it's sarcasm or not. There were maybe 5 guys in college basketball last season 5 inches taller than Giltay and one of them is that kid from Florida who can barely walk.

He played in the NBA, so no. There are G League guys who never played in the NBA who are trying to play college ball.

Exactly. Then Jibsey followed it by saying he blocks shots good and I had immediate Derek Zoolander shot blocking school thoughts for even more amusement.

Our shot blocking was nonexistent when Reibe was on the floor. Reibe did a lot of good things for us, but I was shocked how bad he was at blocking shots. Especially at his size.

I don’t mean someone could ignore a NBA contract. But if it’s over, or he’s released from it, I don’t see a basis that the NCAA could prevent him (if otherwise eligible) when they couldnt prevent a European or minor league pro.

No. Extremely reasonable comparison, the most apt comparison. Tall white centers with huge block radiuses and great hands who dunk everything and won championships as defensive centerpieces of dominant teams. Can't make free throws but their shots from deep look decent.

One of the few lawsuits the NCAA won stemmed from upholding the NCAA's right to bar college players who knowingly opted-into the NBA draft and then didn't withdraw per NCAA rules (Bediako case). Signing an NBA contract was also part of the NCAA's eligibility standard.

Guys that have been drafted or went through the draft undrafted that have been allowed to play were guys auto-entered into the draft due to age (Thijs de Ridder) or international without any college before the draft so rules didn't apply to them (James Nnaji) or same but G-League instead of international (Dink Pate). None of them signed real NBA (non-summer league) contracts.

But the NCAA this summer actually closed this loophole at the D1 cabinet meeting I believe, so now all players have to withdraw not just college players.

The best shot blocker in UConn history was 6’9-6’10”.
