We will be fortunate if Giltay can be either of those last two. And if he is, plus his shotblocking and length, that would be quite a find.
I'm usually not into player comparisons unless there is an uncanny resemblance, but either way, thanks for bringing up Whaley. He made one of the most dramatic year to year jumps I've ever seen. If any of these guys can do that, we will be cooking.Isiah Whaley, THE WRENCH
From the expert who said all year Mullins would not play two years at UConn. If you think this kid is a solution to our lack of size and athleticism then that is a wild take. The reference to Tyler was that in today’s game he is about the same level of player that Tyler was back then. Put him out there hope he holds his own gets a few rebounds but that is the best you can expect. He barely cleared the rim on that block then dunk. I really don’t see why everyone thinks this guy is a solution. Some of these takes are wild.
Easily Machot.I value your opinion - do you prefer Giltay or Machot?
chuckled at this one
Context. For the purpose of my original post to set up the joke, he was the backup center. Whether he started at any other position was irrelevant.O.K., it’s going to be this type of day?
What hill? He started 37 of 38 games and averaged more than half of each game on the court (meaning he wasn[t like Olander in ‘11). Do you have your own language we need to be translating to?
I prefer Machot because I think he has more upside. But I think Oskar is the safer option. Machot’s frame could be very problematic on both sides of the ball.Easily Machot.
His listed 190 lb weight scares me, but he was the CAA Defensive Player of the Year and I think he's got more upside as a potential stretch forward, rim-runner, above-the-rim type guy. He can legit defend one-through-five, but I do worry if he can battle inside. However, if we get Machot as our 4/5, then we can sign a cheaper bruiser who's happy to be here a la a bigger version of Koroma.
I'm also partial to guys like Giltay: he's also an excellent post-defender and an unselfish glue guy.
I'm a little surprised that you didn't bold the "'23-24" part of his post. That would have been an indisputably correct observation.btw, since we're pointing out insignificant details, you're wrong on the bolded part,
I’m spoiled and greedy but I want them bothI prefer Machot because I think he has more upside. But I think Oskar is the safer option. Machot’s frame could be very problematic on both sides of the ball.
With the market for big men I doubt either one is signing up to be a 3rd string CI’m spoiled and greedy but I want them both

Yet faster than the two guys who tried to stop him.Guy runs like a three-legged giraffe on roller skates.
I don’t have the time or inclination to find all the Mullins definitely going people. They know who they are…deep in their hearts. No accusations to you but whoever they are they know what they wrote and there were many here doing it.I think you're mixing me up with someone else. While the smart money would certainly have been on Mullins leaving - and if you read the reactions to his announcement you can see why that was the case - I never made a definitive pronouncement on anything.
The rest of this is just drivel.
Dog Lane Cafe closed the deal for Khamenia. You know Hurley, he's not changing up something that worked. 😀Visited yesterday. Hope the Capital Grille closed the deal. We’ll see.

Well in this case we do know, and hopefully Capital Grille closed the dealDog Lane Cafe closed the deal for Khamenia. You know Hurley, he's not changing up something that worked. 😀
O.K. then, lunch at Dog Lane Cafe and then dinner at Flemings is the winning formula. He took Khamenia to Flemings for dinner
Always surprised why Hurley does not take the players to a local restaurant or local chain restaurant like Max Downtown. Capital Grill and Flemings are national chain restaurants.O.K. then, lunch at Dog Lane Cafe and then dinner at Flemings is the winning formula.
I prefer Giltay because he is the safer option. With Hines as the starter, UConn doesn't need to knock it out of the park with the backup, just not swing and miss.I prefer Machot because I think he has more upside. But I think Oskar is the safer option. Machot’s frame could be very problematic on both sides of the ball.

Even so, those legs on skates, still can beat us on the Kalahari. Mean feet and rock hard head too.Guy runs like a three-legged giraffe on roller skates.
At least 90% of the boardI don’t have the time or inclination to find all the Mullins definitely going people. They know who they are…deep in their hearts. No accusations to you but whoever they are they know what they wrote and there were many here doing it.
Yep get me a live body like Samson. Can run the floor and rim protect. Is that Giltay?Clingan and Mara don’t exist in the portal this year. Diop and Thiam aren’t realistic options to be a tandem with Hines. But look at the block % of Hines and Giltay. Elite elite rim protection. It’s a gamble on the analytics, but the numbers are there. Hell, Zuby was an absolute menace around the rim and he was 6’9”. You don’t need to be 7’2” to be an elite rim protector.
My gripe here is that I want a lob threat and Giltay doesn’t seem like a guy who plays above the rim but maybe I’m wrong.
Honestly, I think this is part of the appeal. He has some skills and athleticism, and from what I read about his play in Europe is a smart pick and roll player, good screener, rebounder, guy who does the little things right. Since he's a sophomore, there's a really good chance we can run out the same center tandem two years in a row. That is a big positive. The build along with his seemingly natural aptitude to block shots and rebound is quite encouraging. Sure it would be nice if he were less raw and had more length, but I do trust in the staff's ability to coach up bigs that show an inclination toward getting better (and I guess we will have to see if he is properly motivated).
It is also nice that he will also be a sophomore next season to continue the trend of players that can be assets next year and then even better the following year.
