Oskar Giltay Stanford Center possible transfer?

Maybe the guy Norlander was talking about in regards to the notable portal bench piece coming in soon.

I hate to refer to money because I've no idea how much UConn has or how much players cost - and no one else really does either - but this feels like the perfect kind of player that balances what we need vs cost in what is reported to be an overheated market for bigs.

I still think every center needs to donate a cut of their deal to Edey and Clingan who made centers a thing again.

Buried in Borges latest article he mentions below and this is the only transfer he mentions by name. Any real fire to this one?

Oskar Giltay, who hit the portal following his freshman season at Stanford and has drawn interest from UConn.

I'm waiting to hear from those who were mocking others for mentioning County as the possible backup point guard.

Here's two mentions of County from Borges' article:

-UConn knows exactly what it's looking for, either out of the portal or via the international route
: A backup center. A backup power forward. And a backup guard, though not necessarily a point guard. The Huskies are comfortable with County handling backup duties behind Demary.

-And, he repeated: County has the staff's trust that he'll handle the backup role.

I'd like to see who was purportedly "mocking" others for that.

OkI don't know if this guy qualifies as notable.
A bench guy that provides 15-25 minutes a game depending on the circumstances isn’t notable?

Belgian? Are we sure he’s not giving up rebounds to the first person to offer him a piece of chocolate?

I'll reluctantly take the 'under' that County is ready as a freshman PG. In the 4-5 games I watched there wasn't a glimmer of the attributes that Silas brings. We just saw multiple games with Silas exiting early in the first half with 2 fouls. I am stunned if they are comfortable going into the season with just the 2 of them. If he is still there, I also don't discount Jacob Ross to bring everything Junior County offers. County may have potential, but as a freshman when you are seeking a national title run....that is a surprising ask.

Mocking probably not the right word, but there were/are a lot who are adamant that we can't rely on a freshman backup PG, especially since they are hung up on him being called a CG.

It’s a lot of trust to put into a freshman who isn’t a pure PG. I’ve heard the arguments for why this is a fine plan. I trust the staff in terms of both scouting and player development but I remain not entirely convinced. I hope he kills it. They’ve certainly turned combo guards into point guards (TN & SD - but see AM), but they were veterans.

I love how some people want a roster full of lottery picks. It doesn't work that way . . .
Not at all, we have to fill something like half our roster of 15 and there will be emergency players/practice players. If this guy is our backup/center sharing minutes with Hines that's a problem. I can't imagine he will be.

Other than SC, this same staff has also had some epic failures with HS point guards, let alone HS combo guards running the pt.

Banking on Hines to hold down 30 min a game on a championship contender seems like playing with fire. Obviously Hines is a great talent, but exactly where he is in the development arc is not defined to the point you can rely on him to that level… which means you need a legit platoon member.

Agreed.

We will already have a major drop-off at both the 4 and 5 to start next year, and with Mullins moving to the 2, a major drop-off at the 3. Do we now add a drop-off at every back-up position as well: Reibe to Giltay, Smith to County, Stewart to ???, Our All-American backcourt will take us far, but aren't we asking a bit much?

I see him as a Koroma+ type player, who can get a handful of minutes in most games but wont' be the primary backup.

I'm not sure what people are expecting Hurley to say publicly about the kid outside of confidence. They still require an actual PG. Either that or just forfeit the games against teams that want to press.
